Tear Gas = Nerve Gas ?
The New York Times raises the issue of using tear gas in battle. Daily KOS: "The Iraqis will not discern between CS and Sarin while they're coughing their lungs out. They will know they have been gassed by an enemy and that will just harden their resolve even more." comment: Sarin, nerve and other lethal gas inhalers wouldn't have time to get mad, much less harden their resolve. That post was a poor use of this site. This is a "news flash" board and, while some opinion is unavoidable, that post went over the line by asserting a flagrent opinion (along with a snarky comment) and criticizing another blog. Let's stick to the news flashes. Posted by: bad post at April 3, 2003 06:37 PM"The Iraqis will not discern between CS and Sarin while they're coughing their lungs out." Erm, shouldn't the fact that they aren't dying tip them off? You know, reasonably, they would have to recover from the attack before any "steeling of resolve" could take place... Somehow it just feels as if Kos is in a nitpicking mood. Regards / GulGnu -Stabil som fan! Posted by: GulGnu at April 3, 2003 06:39 PMThis is fishy and may be a lie -- I can't find this article in the NEw York Times. I searched for Nicholas Wade (the author), tear gas, and several others. I smell a rat here. Posted by: bill at April 3, 2003 06:41 PMwow, I used the NYTimes link from KOS assuming it was valid, not checking NYT itself for it--thought it would save some the hassle of NYT online's registration process. Also assumed the NYT reference made it newsworthy enough to justify posting on the news side, with the KOS link as an example of further spin, and only a minor comment of my own. If TCP's parents think it goes outside the line, I'll gladly and meekly remove the post. kos is just on the opposition... write forbes and tell them that they screwd up by highlighting kos as a "great" blog... he could do the world a favour and leave (as could most of his readers) Posted by: libertarian uber alles at April 3, 2003 07:38 PMActually, I had heard similar nonsense on the radio (1010 wins, I think). When I heard the announcer equating the use of tear gas to mustard, tabun, etc, I had to do a double take. Either, proponents of this are dishonest or stupid. Posted by: grant at April 3, 2003 07:48 PMI read Kos every third or fourth day. Can't take it more often. Oughta be called Kos' Alternate Universe. You should see 'em all giggling about how the war is failing, how awful the war plan is, how the Ayatollah is against U S, etc. Posted by: Larry at April 3, 2003 08:21 PMIt's the same lack of mental process (or intellectual honesty) that leads to moral relativism as well. Posted by: DSmith at April 3, 2003 08:22 PMLet me suggest that TCP consider KOS a sham, and not validate the site by further reference to it. Very much the same of . Not a news reference site, but leftists commentary. Posted by: Jim at April 3, 2003 08:27 PMThis points out one of the more serious problems with anonymous blogs. Someone like KOS obviously needs counselling and all we can do is stand by and watch his mental disintegration. Posted by: OToole at April 3, 2003 09:09 PMPhil Carter had - as usual - a thoughtful analysis of this issue, although his link likewise does not lead to an actual NY Times article: http://philcarter.blogspot.com/2003_03_30_philcarter_archive.html#200092220 (Sorry, I don't know how to encode links in a comment so they work) Posted by: Baseball Crank at April 3, 2003 09:09 PMYou mean when they threw me in a room with some CS gas in boot camp they committed a war crime against me? Holy crap... I wan't my money back. Posted by: rawsnacks at April 3, 2003 09:13 PMIt references commondreams.org which in turn references the Toronto Star Here is the article in the Toronto Star Maybe this article will appear in the Times later? But it has appeared in media. Posted by: Shawn Pickrell at April 3, 2003 10:45 PMPost a comment
