Shia population under attack?

FoxNews Pentagon correspondent Major Garrett reporting that senior Pentagon officials speculate that the Baghdad regime may have cut power to the city in order to cover attacks by the regime on the city's Shia population.

UPDATE: FoxNews' Shepard Smith, speaking to former Secretary of the Army, Togo West, speculates that the recent expulsion of Al Jazeera reporters may be related to this move.

FURTHER UPDATE: Garrett notes that the Pentagon's speculation is based on intelligence available to CENTCOM. (Humint?)

Hopefully, we can convince the Shias that most of the Sunnis were victims, also. They need to focus their justifiable anger against the regime and not against Sunnis in general who are just as must a victim as they are.

That was one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind. Combined with the "grounding" of Al Jazeera, the sudden blackout says to me that the Iraqi regime doesn't want the world to see what they are about to do.

Very creepy.

This is a very good post. Very interesting information.

If we haven't cut off the power, we must make sure now that it stays off. We must control the flow of information coming out of Baghdad and available to the city residents.

If they are killing their own, that can be sorted out later. But we cannot allow them to use atrocities agains their own as propaganda against us.

What do you want to bet that the attacking 'soldiers' will be wearing American or British uniforms?

It's going to be interesting if Al Jazeera ends up documenting Saddamite atrocities due to their being pissed off at being kicked out.

Well *maybe* Al Jazeera leaders are in cahoots with the regime - and blacked out all coverage on purpose. Only one or two A-J guys were kicked out, right? Does it make sense that the whole network goes off in a huff for that?

The whole network didn't go off, they just pulled their reporters. They are still shooting film and photos.

Kick ou the reporters, turn out the lights, put on American uniforms, kill a bunch of Shiites (there have been reports of major explosions in Baghdad), take off the uniforms, turn the lights back on and voila! "Look what those American criminals have done"

Sounds pretty plausible for the Iraqi crew.
