A little humor
From Sgt. Hook, another blogging military man, about the "slow" progress: ...we are NOT there yet, but when we do arrive rest assured you'll know because there will be a live report on just about every channel of your television and radio. Just as a soldier from the 173rd Airborne Brigade (my old unit) out of Vicenza, Italy discovered yesterday when he landed into northern Iraq after jumping out of a perfectly good flying machine- having just barely finished unbuckling from his parachute and checking his gear, the 173rd trooper was greeted by a civilian with a microphone who said something to the effect of "hi, I'm Bill Commentator with CNN, welcome to Iraq." War is hell. Sgt. Hook, who is stationed in the Sandwich Islands, also blogs about taking his men on a "little" run of 4+ miles, and his take on whether people should worry about the daily grind while the war is going on: Those of us in this profession of arms wear our uniforms and defend our nation so that Americans can live a life of worry. Worrying about getting a car fixed, which dress to buy, what to prepare for dinner, which university to attend instead of worrying about torture, rape, if there will be a next meal, oppression, etc. Our way of life was threatened on September 11, 2001 and is threatened still today (but not for much longer). The fact that the Iraqi people will be liberated is a secondary affect of our armed forces ridding the threat to the United States and the world. So, please continue to worry about what may seem trivial so that we are not fighting the good fight all for naught.Posted By susanna cornett at April 3, 2003 02:27 PM | TrackBack Comments
