From the Front
Michael Kelly, columnist, offers some excellent war reporting: On the western side of the bridge, Lt. Col. Ernest "Rock" Marcone, commander of Task Force 3-69, stood in the sand by the side of the road, smoking a cigar and drinking a cup of coffee. Marcone's soldiers say he deeply likes to win, and he seemed quietly happy. At 2 a.m. yesterday, Marcone had led his battalion into the assault with two objectives, both critical to the 3rd Infantry's drive to Baghdad. The first was to seize the Karbala Gap, a narrow piece of flat land between a lake and a river that offers a direct and unpopulated passageway to this bridge. The second was the bridge itself, the foothold across the Euphrates, last natural obstacle between the division and Baghdad. Treat yourself and read the whole thing. Comments
Viva Le France!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: De Gaulling at April 3, 2003 01:42 AMYa know I bet Buford is a Cowboy. This story totally makes me proud to be an American. Michael Kelly has been killed in a Humvee accident in Iraq. http://www.townhall.com/clog/archive/030330.html#100226AM Posted by: ScottM at April 4, 2003 10:32 AMThe fake French comment is hilarious. The mistakes with English aren't mistakes that any French (or other Latin-based language speaking) person would make ("he is the gay closet"). He mixes absurdly basic mistakes ("we no want") with complex English sentence structure like "speaks no language but ..." The killer was when he misspells "Vive le France", confusing it with "Viva Mexico" or something. Probably sad that this didn't trigger stronger responses.
