1st MEF is EAST of the TIGRIS
Oliver North, reporting to FOXNews Channel's Shep Smith, just announced that elements of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force have now crossed the Tigris (presumably near Al Kut?). This means that the 1st MEF can now engage Republican Guard forces around Baghdad from the east side of the river. That American forces are approaching Baghdad from not only east and west of the Euphrates, but also from east of the Tigris is not surprising, but this is the first confirmation that American units are finally making that swing around Baghdad's east flank. And, yes, it does seem odd that Ollie North is announceing specific troop movements on live television, but between the fact that this is Ollie North and that he had a 1st MEF officer join him later in the on-air discussion leads me to assume that the military is okay with reporting (and thus repeating) this news. Time to drop the hammer boys!! Posted by: The Mullet at April 2, 2003 12:20 AMThis was confirmed by Dr. Bob Arnot on MSNBC. The word is they brought their own bridging equiptment and built their own bridges north of Al Kut. Dr. Arnot, quoting one of the Marine captains about the possibility of street fighting answered wit the quote of the day: " We took Iwo Jima, we can sure as hell take bagdhad" Posted by: Frank Martin at April 2, 2003 12:42 AMI've said this before but it needs repeating: GO GET 'EM, JARHEADS!! If you're so keen Mullet, why are'nt you there? Not very brave of you, I think if you were confronted with an Iraqi with a gun, even if you had one, you'd shit yourself! Posted by: Prince Rufus at April 2, 2003 02:43 AMI'm confused. Didn't Peter Arnett say "This War Is Not Working"? Posted by: Tim Shell at April 2, 2003 02:43 AMPerhaps the field leadership of the 1stMEF is comfortable with Ollie giving some details because they figure no one in Baghdad can hear them anyway. Maybey that's why Saddam didn't make his appearance on Tuesday...he's glued to Fox News. Oh, and Prince, I don't see your ass over there either. Trust me, if the Marines would take my 48-year-old keester, I'd be there in a second. But, then I wouldn't be able to read your troll comments, would I? Posted by: Joe Dougherty at April 2, 2003 06:48 AMOliver North...another media blabbermouth. Do you think any of the weapons he ilegally sent to the middle east during our embargo are going to be found. they might. Posted by: DesertRat at April 2, 2003 10:58 AMPost a comment
