Bush Backs Rumsfeld Against Iraq War Critics
From Reuters: President Bush has complete faith in Donald Rumsfeld, a senior U.S. official said on Tuesday, dismissing new criticism of the defense secretary's handling of the Iraq war as second-guessing by one of "1,000 colonels" at the Pentagon. Is that a 1,000 colonels of light? Posted by: BobbyV at April 1, 2003 12:14 PMBlame Turkey. Posted by: John Anderson at April 1, 2003 12:24 PMal-Reuters is now attributing comments? Posted by: Kalle (kafir forever) at April 1, 2003 12:25 PM>>U.S.-led forces are now within 49 miles of Baghdad, but critics contend that they are getting bogged down on the way to the Iraqi capital in the face of unexpected resistance. This is the first time I've seen a number less than 50 to describe the number of miles to Baghdad. Posted by: Vince at April 1, 2003 12:27 PMJacka**es. The media have lost all perspective and are engaged in a witch hunt to prove that they were right in opposing the war. We ain't that stupid. Of course when their bottom line is impacted by their anti-American screeds they will sing a new tune. Posted by: feste at April 1, 2003 12:49 PMI don't agree that they're on a witch-hunt. They're just professional fearmongers. The media learned a long time ago that fear sells, and news stories about Bad Things make people watch about 10 times more than news stories about Good Things. So the media go around looking for Bad Things, and if they don't find enough, they start making them up. Gotta keep those ratings up. Posted by: DSmith at April 1, 2003 01:09 PMDemotions for everyone!!! Posted by: Angus at April 1, 2003 01:25 PMJust as a general comment, I think the media's rep. has taken (and will take) a beating in the popular opinion. Looking forward to those juicy coup-counting articles from more level-headed sorts in the press! Rumsfeld's screw up is proably going to be studied in military history classes for quite some time. whoever keeps insisting it its the "media" or "opponents of the war" give it a break, it is pretty clear that general officers with a lot more military experience than rumsfeld, as well as officers on the ground are the ones complaining. Look what happened on this board when General Wallace complained about Rumsfelds strategy. People who had no idea prediected he would be fired, etc., and wondered who he was. I hpe they now know who wallace is, and I expect he is going to toast Rummy's a$$ when he this is over. Posted by: anvil at April 1, 2003 01:36 PMWitch Hunts? I thought those were reserved for the likes of the Dixie Chick and Peter Arnett. Posted by: Brian at April 1, 2003 01:39 PM"Complete Faith", huh? Bush used to own a baseball team. We all know what happens when the owner expresses "complete faith" in the manager, don't we? Posted by: RVMann at April 1, 2003 02:04 PMAnvil... Wallace is true blue Clintonite that will follow the party line in opposing anything the administration does. All I here coming out of his mouth is blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. David, Wallace is the commander of the troops on the front line in Iraq. Do you even read the news? he is the highest ranking officer in Iraq. Get a grip, or a newspaper. Posted by: lars at April 1, 2003 07:59 PMPost a comment
