UK forces 'face malaria outbreak'

From Ananova: A shortage of mosquito nets is reportedly putting British troops in Iraq at risk of contracting malaria. In one unit only 6,000 of the nets have been delivered for more than 9,000 British soldiers, officers say.

its not the nets...

its the shit in the water... You think with a bloody desert, the locals would just dig a pit and poop in that...

Do we have to civilize the entire world?

And no DDT. Have they got OFF?

The Royal Marines are just as likely to bite the mosquitos back

aren't malaria shots effective? you know they have them. also I have a friend who was in the pacific in WWII and he says the best thing that happened to him was malaria because he now can't remember anything that happened...so he says.

They need buttloads of gin and tonic.

Mark: Malaria is not caused by shit in the water. It's caused by a parasite in the mosquito.

Malaria isn't a fucking joke. It sucks. I've had it numerous times. I don't think there's a shot or vaccine, yet, but if you've got a link, post it.

you can take pills to ward it off, but they give you funky dreams. still a lot better than high fevers.

dirty water may cause Cholera or Dysentery, which have been reported among the Iraqi populace in Basra and other areas cut off from fresh water. Malaria is def caused by infected mosquitos

Perhaps one benefit of this war will be an increased appreciation for the number one health problem facing the world: clean water. We have to truck water to the troops and pipe it into areas where the Ba'athists have shut off the flow from the north.

Though there have always been natural habitats for the malaria parasite, modern storm and sanitary sewers probably help control the disease in populated areas.

Why doesn't someone send some "Mosquito Magnets" over there? They are supposed to be very effective and I think you can buy one that covers up to an acre (or more, I can't remember) for a grand. If the brits pay what the u.s. pays for military supplies (e.g. the $500 dollar hammer) then those mosquito nets would cost a heck of a lot more than a few mosquito magnets.

Its time to bring out the British Homeopaths.(and there are plenty of them!)
They are the only healthcare providers who really know how to CURE Malaria. These men deseve the best! Give it to them.

As I understand it, a 12-18 megaton blast would help eliminate the problems with mosquitoes - and other "pests" in Iraq.

Or, we could bring in a bunch of French as human mosquito shields.
