FOXNews (cable channel) is reporting that in half an hour (8pm Baghdad time) Saddam Hussein will be speaking. Another memorex moment? Or will he risk diclosing his location via a live broadcast? Wait and see. Posted By GlennFrazier.com at April 1, 2003 11:31 AM | TrackBackComments
I hope somebody records it, I'm at work and don't want to miss it. Or is this an April Fools joke? That Saddam can be such a kidder. Posted by: Bri at April 1, 2003 11:36 AMSHOOT HIM NOW!! SHOOT HIM NOW!! Posted by: Mike Plaiss at April 1, 2003 11:40 AMHeh. Well, Fox is getting their info from IraqTV, which is saying Saddam will be directly addressing the Iraqi people. The big questions, obviously: Is it live? ...and finally... Which networks' translator will give Saddam the funniest sounding voice? Live from Baghdad!!! Its Saturday Night!!! Posted by: grant at April 1, 2003 11:46 AMA guess:no live address, even if Saddam's still alive and in reasonably good condition. No reason to take the risk,so he'll send a pre-rec tape. Posted by: JH at April 1, 2003 11:48 AMPaul Reubens could have a wonderful career as a translator for Fox. Posted by: Dishman at April 1, 2003 11:48 AMSaddam will record the tape. He may have recorded it this afternoon, and if he's alive will hopefully refer to specific events like the POWs, the open-air markets which suspiciously get bombed a lot, or whatever other small victories his regime can claim. Posted by: Shawn Pickrell at April 1, 2003 11:51 AMIt occurs to me that it doesn't matter if it's live or not, or really what he says. We're at the mercy of our "news" coverage to tell us if it is or not! And I don't speak arabic. What, me cynical? Posted by: Bri at April 1, 2003 11:51 AMPeter Arnett, Geraldo, Saddam....who to watch, who to watch?... Posted by: Genghis at April 1, 2003 11:51 AMWhat if he offers to surrender on the condition that Iraq is handed over to the French, Russians or the UN? That would be a rather divisive move. Posted by: karl at April 1, 2003 11:52 AMIt will be live with magic instanteous camera angle changes and mysterious splices, all live and in real time. Further proof the Iraqi engineers have far exceded the pathetic offerings of western digital media companies. Posted by: BobbyV at April 1, 2003 11:52 AMFirst question from Media: OK Sammy, who is in the Final Four? Posted by: Capsu78 at April 1, 2003 11:55 AMThree words: "Weekend at Saddam's" Why is it so hard to disable their TV signal? If he make more generic comments, we have to officially declare him dead. Posted by: ElCapitanAmerica at April 1, 2003 11:58 AMRussell, I burst out laughing on Saturday when I saw "Weekend at Bernies" on the tube. Posted by: Bri at April 1, 2003 11:58 AMThe mustache-less Minister is on TV. Posted by: ElCapitanAmerica at April 1, 2003 12:00 PMDidn't they copy that background image from the Coalition media center? Posted by: ElCapitanAmerica at April 1, 2003 12:01 PMUmm, Thats not Saddam.... Posted by: Sean at April 1, 2003 12:03 PMY'all have to be the eyes and ears of those of us at work... (streaming not allowed by CIS, either) Posted by: Bri at April 1, 2003 12:04 PMHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: ElCapitanAmerica at April 1, 2003 12:04 PMHAHAHAHAHA! Oh my God, they just ran out of footage I guess. LOL!!!!! Posted by: ElCapitanAmerica at April 1, 2003 12:05 PMHis lackey read "a statement" from Saddam. He's rotting in a bomb shelter right now. Posted by: Sean at April 1, 2003 12:06 PMOh my goodness, Nic Robertson on CNN, this guy is so useless. "We have never heard from Saddam Hussein being so defiant". Dude, that wasn't Saddam Hussein!!! Posted by: ElCapitanAmerica at April 1, 2003 12:06 PMLike someone said - just an April Fool's Joke. Maybe the old phrase should be recast. "Jihad is the refuge of scoundrels" Posted by: JohninLondon at April 1, 2003 12:07 PMWell, that was lame. Nic Robertson is saying that it "could be an effort to confound the coalition", as his possible explination of why he's not seen in the video. The other alternate explination is that "maybe it was better for the Information minister to deliver it". He doesn't even suggest that he might be dead. Posted by: ElCapitanAmerica at April 1, 2003 12:08 PMMy prediction: More of the same. No specific references, alot of editing. Why? The only people who need to know if he is alive or dead is the US. Why should they give us that information? And the Iraqi people - keep them guessing too. Maybe Uncle Saddam will come back some day. Posted by: Mr_Sarcasm at April 1, 2003 12:13 PMIf the U.S. had any intention of "finding" Saddam, his sons, and top leaders, why would we use Cruise missles and the bunker busting bombs? Are we expected to believe they'll indentify their bodies by fitting the pieces together like a cross-word puzzle? Silly ... how these higher ups draw conclusions. Dead is dead, regardless how it's accomplished! Posted by: KY Wildcat at April 1, 2003 12:37 PMyes clearly a case of quadruple think. Saddam was shot by the information minister who has in turn gone totally bonkers all according to a plan designed by Aziz to convince Nic Robertson that coalition forces will no have no choice but to retreat or become infected by their madness. a devilish scheme. what a bunch of losers. Posted by: angrYkook at April 1, 2003 12:54 PMhe is dead, fred. he is toast. he is history. saddam is gone. we should just announce it. let the burden of proof be on their heads. anytime they give out a video of him, the translator should talk like mike tyson, in a squeaky kind of voice. we should even monkey around with it, ala conan o'brien. you know, take the people's fear out of it. drop leaflets on iraq announcing his death. he is either dead or we need to draw him out to prove he is not. otherwise the myth will go on. and if he comes out, we should raze the place where he stands. besides, he is a draq queen. do you know jihady mad it would make them to announce that saddam is gay and having an affair with osama? put helicopters in the sky with giant projector screens to see sadam like that would have a delitorious effect, especially if we were serious about it and he looked real at first.
