German Soldiers Bound for Kuwait to Protect Americans
Germany has sent further soldiers to Kuwait to protect American and Kuwaiti installations from chemical and biological attacks. The government has stressed that 'they will have nothing to do with the ongoing war in Iraq.' - Deutsche Welle reports (already old news, but it may be new to you..). Comments
"The government has stressed that 'they will have nothing to do with the ongoing war in Iraq." Don't worry, we understand loud and clear, we got the message, so much in fact I doubt it will be forgotten but for the greater duplicity of France and Russia.. Ta ta.. Posted by: Ben Noah at March 31, 2003 04:02 PMLooks to me like the Germans are starting to make sure Germany has a say in the restructuring of post war Iraq. Posted by: goforit at March 31, 2003 04:24 PMI presume the German troops (maybe "troops" is too strong a word) are traveling to the war zone via American transport. Posted by: George Peery at March 31, 2003 04:36 PMIf they'll kindly man the check-points, their help will truly be appreciated. Posted by: BobbyV at March 31, 2003 04:59 PMTheatre of the absurd, really. Someone please explain why France and Germany want to protect our troops from Saddam's imaginary, non-existent weapons? Maybe they're providing imaginary, non-existent help? I just don't get Old Europe. Posted by: DG at March 31, 2003 05:02 PMIS there any greater show of support than to send troops to protect us from a threat you insist doesn't exist?. Thank you thank you thank you...cynical Euro-trash...order early before they're all gone!!! Will they stay in Kuwait? Put 'em to work as stevedores. Support is support. I don't think our army would get very far without the noncombatants driving supply trucks. Similarly, the Germans are freeing up American troops while carefully skirting public opinion at home. I have no problem with this. I can't really blame Russia either. The only major exports they have are military hardware, and everyone wants American or British equipment. They're in debt and need to raise cash somehow. France, on the other hand, has no such excuse. Posted by: anon at March 31, 2003 06:35 PMThe germans will not work as stevedores 'cos they won't get .... Old Europe. It's SO 20th century...or is that 19th? Yawn. Irrelevent now. They've really cooked their own goose. Posted by: DSmith at March 31, 2003 07:23 PMYou know you are winning when the Germans feel it is safe enough to come out from under the bed where they have been hiding. The French will wait for the victory parade before they turn up. Posted by: Christopher Holland at March 31, 2003 11:52 PMPost a comment
