The 2 O'Clock (Baghdad Time) Follies
From the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri has threatened to turn the desert into a grave for invading US and British forces if they did not retreat.I also heard the telecast, and in it he said that the Coalition forces were already retreating on all fronts, leaving thousands of dead. Any Coalition forces wanting to "save their souls" should surrender immediately, or they will be "put in an incinerator". The telecast was punctuated periodically by the sound of bombs hitting targets in Baghdad. Posted By Alan E Brain at March 31, 2003 08:34 AM | TrackBack Comments
Does anyone know of a paper, or article, or any publication that documents the lies in the Arab press exaggeratig their battlefield victories in the last 60 years or so? Posted by: oceanguy at March 31, 2003 08:39 AMThose my friends are the dying gasps of a Regime on the way to the "incinerator." Posted by: Tarmo Saranen at March 31, 2003 08:39 AMOceanguy, I have nolink but it is a fact that during one of those Israel vs. everyone else wars in the 1970s Egypt blatantly lied to Syria that Egyptian Fighter planes were "flying over Tel-aviv" when in fact 95 percent of their airforce was decimated by the IAF. They did this so Syria would join the war against Israel. Posted by: Tarmo Saranen at March 31, 2003 08:46 AMI know it's fact, I'm looking for a book or paper that someone has written cataloguing it all Posted by: oceanguy at March 31, 2003 08:52 AMoceanguy, I found something for you, http://www.unc.edu/depts/diplomat/AD_Issues/amdipl_17/articles/deatkine_arabs1.html Posted by: Tarmo Saranen at March 31, 2003 08:57 AMTo paraphrase a punchline from the TV show "Cheeers," "Walt Disney should have this Sabri's imagination." Posted by: Babaloo at March 31, 2003 09:19 AMThanks tarmo Posted by: oceanguy at March 31, 2003 09:19 AMThe funny part of it is that the Iraqi minister probably has "proof" of what he is saying. I think that every battle field commander of the Iraqi army who is lucky enough to live through another day files reports filled with successes : "many enemies shot or captured; we have advanced irresistebly; in fact, we are already in the suburbs of Washington DC". If they don't, the goons will come to shoot them. Posted by: Peter at March 31, 2003 09:32 AM"I also heard the telecast, and in it he said that the Coalition forces were already retreating on all fronts, leaving thousands of dead." You know if you are going to criticize the Iraqs for lying (and they are) you should not lie yourself. What he said was that thousands of coalitions forces WOULD die. Now I hope and pray that that will not be the case and that Sabri and the fascists running Iraq are sent promptly to hell, but it is indeed entirely possible that there will be thousands of coalition forces killed. One just has to project the numbers from current casualties. Posted by: Dave at March 31, 2003 11:11 AMJordan joined in the '67 (Six-Day) War under similar circumstances. The Egyptians lied to them, and the reluctant King Hussein bought into it in part because the Egyptian news was broadcasting reports of utter triumph against Israel. And I've heard of Egyptians who didn't realize they lost the Yom Kippur War until they had a chance to travel outside of Egypt.
