Coalition Troops Suffer Huge Losses, Say Iraqis
From Bahrain's Gulf Daily News: Iraq said yesterday that its military had killed hundreds of enemy soldiers in the 10-day-old war and shot down five fighter planes and four helicopter gunships, one of which was captured almost intact. A military spokesman speaking on television also said six unmanned drones and 143 cruise missiles had been shot down. Iraqi forces had also destroyed 74 tanks, five tank transporters and 35 armoured personnel carriers, he said, adding that thousands of enemy soldiers had been wounded. What kind of drug causes hallucinations like this? Gee, a glorious day for the iraqi army. They missed the aircraft carriers that the mines took out and the awesome missiles that destroyed Kuwait. I've got Photoshop, I can probably get a good contract with Al Jism Posted by: Amused at March 29, 2003 09:37 PMReminds me of the scene in Animal House: "Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit." Posted by: jimg at March 29, 2003 09:38 PMWho is this "Alan" A-Hole that posts all this crap anyway? He's click his name and you get command-post.org rather than his personal blog. Posted by: Parabellum at March 29, 2003 09:40 PMHow exactly does one "shoot down" a cruise missle. Is it with the same magic gun the "peasants" used on the Apache that first had no bullet holes, then later had a lot of what apear to be .45 holes shot from above or at least dead on from the side. They probably got their info on the other stuff from Rooters. Posted by: Vlad at March 29, 2003 09:40 PMThis will soon be relayed to Reuters, and published in every major newspaper in America. Don't believe me? Watch and see. Posted by: Caleb at March 29, 2003 09:45 PMCan't speak the truth in the Arab world? Posted by: B52 at March 29, 2003 09:53 PMThose cruise missiles were intercepted by Iraq's new point-defense buildings. This innovative idea uses government ministries and military installations to knock missiles from the air. "Who is this "Alan" A-Hole that posts all this crap anyway?" Just one of the two people who started this blog. You know, the people who provide you this opportunity to express your views, at their own expense. Not me, BTW, though some of my posts in the first 2 days were marked by "Alan" due to a minor misconfiguration on my part. Remember, we just report what's said, with at most a few words to put it in context. We deliberately try to avoid expressing an opinion, sometimes successfully. If we have anything to say about a story that's not obvious, we often write comments, like this one. For detailed analysis, see the Op-Ed page link if there is one. But here, the only comment one could make on this story would be "What they're saying is Horse Puckey.". And that's a bit obvious, isn't it? Posted by: Alan E Brain at March 29, 2003 10:00 PMWell, what else do we expect the Boys in Baghdad to do? Tell the truth? They know if they copped to what was really going on (i.e., if they admitted weakness)their many enemies would pounce and they'd be done in a hearbeat. Posted by: Doug at March 29, 2003 10:02 PMhey vince you heard of crack cocaine well its cracked saddam Posted by: aby normal at March 29, 2003 10:08 PMhey parabellum you ever hear the old saying dont piss the cook off....well the same applys here...that remark was not very well though out was it....lol obivously if it came to this site it had to be the owner.....lol Posted by: aby normal at March 29, 2003 10:12 PMhey anyone wanna know what a miracle in iraq is? it would be the truth Posted by: aby normal at March 29, 2003 10:14 PMIt should be pointed out that, even if these claims were accurate, we'd still be "winning" by nearly any measure. I'm confident that they aren't accurate, and that just shows how well things are going for us in the quagmire. Posted by: Murdoc at March 29, 2003 10:15 PMI always knew I was an "a-hole." Posted by: Alan at March 29, 2003 10:19 PMWe need to be trying to understand what it is in the Arab culture that makes these lies so common and so widely believed. Posted by: oceanguy at March 29, 2003 10:25 PMActually, they did manage to shoot down some TLAMs during Gulf War I. This was in the days when TLAMs used terrain maps instead of GPS, and the terrain maps took a long time to build. Late in the war they got rushed and routed like 8 TLAMs sequentially over the same landmarks with only a few minutes separation. By the time the 3rd one went by, a nearby AA gun had the route pretty well zeroed in. I think they shot down 2. Posted by: wepprop at March 29, 2003 10:35 PMAnd most glorious of all, the Iraquis took out the entire North American continent with their Death Star Posted by: Mister Ghost at March 29, 2003 10:37 PMlololol... point defense buildings Posted by: Ted at March 29, 2003 10:39 PMRobert Crawford's comments are a hoot. Robert, when you get invited to a gig on Leno, drop me a line. I wouldn't want to miss it!
It reminds me of the time I beat the crap out of a guys fist with my face. Posted by: Mr_Sarcasm at March 29, 2003 10:52 PMAs for Parabellum's unthought comment, there is a phrase that goes something like this: Know thine ememy. Burying your head in the sand, and having no idea what the other side is saying or doing is purely undeniable ignorance. Posted by: Sean at March 29, 2003 11:00 PMI find it encouraging that the Arab world feels it necessary to swallow every shovel-load of sh*t the Iraqi government feeds them. It shows concern. I'm more concerned about the freaks in the Western world with sh*t for brains who will also digest this as if it were truth. I think we've all learned that the Arab world suffers penis-envy in a very serious way. Next we'll hear about Saddam's 12-inch ****** Posted by: Cowboy Bob at March 29, 2003 11:01 PMre: wepprop's observation: ain't technology cool? Do you remember how massively advanced that terrain mapping seemed at the time? And how archaic it seems now? I mean, I've had a handheld GPS for my boat for 3 or 4 years now, and other people have them in their cars' dashboards. That terrain mapping stuff was "gee whiz, what will they think of next" stuff just an eyeblink ago. Posted by: DontTread at March 30, 2003 12:38 AMAll the numbers are accurate. What you fail to understand is these number include their own self-inflicted losses... All the numbers are accurate. What you fail to understand is these numbers include their own self-inflicted losses... What I'd like to ask is the following: There are plenty of Left commentators out there who have said things like, "Given a choice between Rumsfeld and Hussein, I'm not sure who is telling the truth." When the Iraqis release news like this, which side do YOU think is telling the truth? Posted by: Dean at March 30, 2003 04:09 AMAbout the GPS guidance versus terrain mapping... The GPS system does in effect use a terrain map. They work with elevations as well as lat & long. Remember that high-def radar mapping mission of the whole world that the space shuttle did a few years ago? GPS aint as reliable as we'd all like, for instance, driving down the road once my GPS told me to hang a left, If I had done so, I would've drove into a building :D
