Czech unit may see action

The Czechs have a chemical-war battalion at the ready in Kuwait if chemical weapons are used; they're hoping that time doesn't come, battalion commander General Dusan Lupuljev said, because "that would mean people had died". While they're not officially a part of the invasion force, their Parliament has approved their involvement in Operation Iraqi Freedom if Iraq uses "unconventional weapons" - which would include the kind of weapons the unit is trained to handle the aftermath of.

I've not heard much about the Czech involvement in the coalition forces, and didn't find anything in the archives about this unit, so although this article about the unit in the English-language Prague Post is from Wednesday, you may find it informative.

These guys are the world experts in this kind of stuff. Their armoured vehicles are mobile labs. I think they're called Ferrets. So far, thank God, they've never be called to function but they're ready.

There were a couple of articles before hostilities commenced about the Czech Chemical/bio weapons detection units along with pictures of their vehicles in Kuwait.
