Baghdad Air Defense Commander Replaced
Fox reports that the British government claims the Iraqi air defense commander for Baghdad has been replaced, apparently because two missiles misfired and fell back on Baghdad. If this is true, it means that the two marketplace tragedies were probably from those missiles rather than coalition strikes. I wonder what "replaced" is a euphemism for in this case. As I've said in comments before, some Iraqi AA battery needs a refresher course in setting fuses on their ordnance. Unfortunately, this may mean they'll get one. A B-52 pilot interviewed said he was shot at by a surface-air missle. He said it was his first time ever to be shot at by the bag guys (his words). He said a nearby fighter jet jammed the missle's radar and it FELL BACK TO BAGHDAD. I'm wondering why this isn't being more reported. It's confirmation of an Iraqi missle falling back on Baghdad. I can't remember which network the interview was on. Too bad the reporter could make the connection. BobbyV, we probably don't want to use the media to point out the Iraq defense weaknesses, as they will always try to exploit ours. So if they don't know "why" their anti-air defence dosen't work, they can't work out a solution to it. Posted by: Sean at March 29, 2003 06:01 PMIf they did replace him, they're idiots. Those casualties did the Iraqi regime more good in the court of World ( especially Arab ) opinion than anything else they've done. The Iraqi is probably being replaced because he didn't kill enough of his own people. Posted by: MoronWatch at March 29, 2003 08:39 PMPost a comment
