Marines recover bodies of slain comrades
NEAR NASIRIYA, Iraq (CNN) -- U.S. Marines Friday recovered the bodies of seven fallen comrades who died in intense fighting around Nasiriya in southern Iraqi Sunday, officials said... When the Marines arrived on the scene, they recovered five bodies, said U.S. Marine Capt. Scott Dyer, who oversaw the recovery effort. Some Iraqi civilians came out and showed where they had buried two others, he said. The Iraqis also handed over the personal effects of at least one of the Marines, including photographs and some mail, Dyer said. Posted By E. Nough at March 28, 2003 07:39 PM | TrackBackComments
They could have dragged them through the streets--but instead they saved their personal effects, and even gave two of them decent burials. This is a good sign that we have the civilian support for this war. Posted by: Michael Levy at March 28, 2003 07:53 PMI agree. Posted by: notmyrealname at March 28, 2003 08:05 PMThat's just what I was thinking. Couple that with the CBS story of the Marines mistakenly killing 3 Iraqi civilians, and it's hard not to believe that when left on their own the Iraqi's are pretty decent people. It's the jack-booted FS thugs that need to be put down. Posted by: travis at March 28, 2003 08:27 PMIncredibly decent of the Iraqis to give our boys a burial and also hand over the personal effects. The families will thank them for that. If we can even vaguely generalize this to the majority populace then I am hopeful. Really hopeful, that it don't have to be as bloody or messy. Post a comment
