South Korea Delays Vote On Iraq

From Reuters via the Washington Post:

South Korean political parties decided on Friday to postpone until next week a contentious parliament vote on the government's plan to contribute non-combat troops to the U.S.-led war in Iraq, YTN cable news reported.

Delay attributed to public protests and divisions in ruling party.

Well, if the South Koreans don't want to help us, I know a place where we could pull about 37,000 troops from.

I'd honestly like to know what we're supposed to do with non-combat troops.

Protesting is the national sport and pastime of Korea. When I lived there in the late 90s I spoke with a high level Korean riot control officer and was susprised to learn that many of the clashes between protesters and police are planned and staged for political effect. Speaking with many protesters gave me the impression that they had even less of a clue about what they were protesting than the current American Anti-war protestors!

ND, that's pretty surprising! so, it's more like a joke then--like "hey, there's a protest planned today, wanna come?" "sure, what time does the police plan to start cuffing folks?" i wonder who's doing the planning then..

but i bet they'll stop playing games if North Korea gets serious..
