DAN MCDOUGALL DESERT Rats wiped out a squadron of Iraqi tanks near Basra yesterday as UK soldiers revealed grim details of military forces massing in Iraq’s second city. The engagement was said by military to be the largest tank battle involving UK forces since the Second World War. It erupted as Challenger 2s engaged the Iraqi tanks, thought to be Russian-built T55s, which were moving south towards the Al Faw peninsula. All the Iraqi vehicles were destroyed by a similar squadron-strength number of tanks from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. A military source said: "It was 14-0." T-55's ??? Geez, those are older than my father for chrissakes. Looks like there'll be no shortage of souls going to paradise. Posted by: The Mullet at March 27, 2003 11:24 PMCan heaven run out of virgins? I genuinely feel sorry for the Iraqi crews. One good thing - it would have been quick, and given the effect of a 120mm APFSDS, painless. No slow cooking in a burning tank, one moment you're there, the next instant you're a vapour cloud. I read a joke on a blog somewhere pointing out that Martyrs may be somewhat dismayed to find their appointed virgins to be a bit heavier, homelier, and older than advertised, as all of the young and pretty ones have already been issued, but given the extended run on the existing stock, it was only to be expected.
