Everyday Iranians Fearful, Want Saddam Out
Although Iran's government-controlled media is taking a mostly pro-Saddam line, reports are that everyday Iranians want Saddam out. Unsurprisingly, though, many are still fearful of U.S. intentions. Posted By Dean Esmay at March 27, 2003 07:03 PM | TrackBackComments
Is anyone else having problems getting to the WP site? Posted by: TMS at March 27, 2003 07:15 PMNone for me. It is coming up with a screen where you have to enter your zip code and year of birth to get in, although they don't ask for any other personal information. Posted by: Dean Esmay at March 27, 2003 07:23 PMComes up fine for me. I don't understand why Iran opposes the US in this. They issued a Fatwa against Saddam years ago. Posted by: Richard R at March 27, 2003 07:25 PMI can't blame them for being suspicious of the west. We are suspicious of them. It will take a long time to learn to love one another -- it hasn't happened for centuries why should we expect it today? Evolution would be a nice thing to try out in terms of humans getting along with each other. Posted by: robert at March 27, 2003 07:39 PMWhere have you been, Robert? Iran is another oppressive totalitarian nation. The only difference is that (to top it off), Iran is a theocracy. I don't and have no desire to love evil. In my opinion, Iran is a more important target in the War On Terror than even Iraq (though Iraq too, is an important target), because Iran is the source of the ideology which spurs terrorists. It is as one writer said, the "terrorism capital of the world." Posted by: Jahandar at March 27, 2003 07:56 PMAs with Iraq, it is very important to be able to distinguish between the pseudo-democratic government of Iran and the actual people of Iran. Though state-mandated there, I find anti-Americanism in Iran far less sincere than that found within our own country. Culturally speaking, Persian Iran is a lot more "western" than most westerners realize, and quite a bit more civilized than what is found in much of the Arabic world. Recap: Lots more on this here.
