Saudi Opposition To War

This Arab News story says women in particular are objecting to the war:

Describing US President George W. Bush as the “self-appointed policeman of the world”, Saudi female journalist and investor Nada Al-Fayez asks: “Who gave America the right to police in this area and handle this situation in a bloody way? How come, as a world policeman, Bush wants to punish one criminal, Saddam Hussein, and leave another criminal, Ariel Sharon, alone? Is that fair?”

She said the war had stirred powerful emotions among Saudi women, some of whom were donning military fatigues at private parties and boycotting fashion wear from the West to demonstrate their solidarity with the Iraqi people.

Hey Ladies, had the US not shown up in 1990, you would be wearing Iraqi battle wear today. Why don't you just drive on down to Piggly Wiggly and pick me and Fassel here some hot dogs and beer for the NCAA games tonight?

I don't think I can blame the people themselves that much.. They're sheep for the anti-US PR around the world. After all, all they get is Arab news, Al-Jazeera, and at best, BBC. In fact, I heard that subscription to Al-Jazeera satellite TV is up significantly in Europe
i don't have the stats but it was something like 60%???!!! if i recall...

we're the world's policeman cuz we're the biggest and baddest and the only ones with the cajones to do anything.
Geez here's a quarter to call someone who cares, like maybe the UN or France.

Yeah...but no supply trucks, or tanks. No driving at all...stay in the house.

Burka's are Western Fashion wear?... I need to get a subscription to Cosmo...am I behind the fashion times. The reason they are wearing fatigues at private parties is if they were seen on the street wearing them, the Wahadi elders would have them flogged. Do Saudi's even allow their women to be educated?

Wouldn't that be a 100SR cell phone chip instead of a quarter?

Howard Bloom (who's a democrat btw) has excellent analysis on why the attitude and why populace has been so mislead.

"The foreign press has been set up to believe that everything America does is an atrocity," Bloom said, pointing to a "secret war going on behind the headlines."

He added they also may be wearing similar uniforms as the US military and assassinating people such as Shi'ites and then using the foreign press to photograph such incidents as examples of American brutality.

Israel doesn't present a security threat to America and Sharon is not like Saddam.

"How come, as a world policeman, Bush wants to punish one criminal, Saddam Hussein, and leave another criminal, Ariel Sharon, alone? Is that fair?"

First we go after the Axe Murderers, then those with unpaid parking fines and library books returned late. BTW, How's the Saudi record on Human Rights lately? Stopped keeping slaves yet?

Who gave us the right to police the world? A bunch of madmen flying our planes into buildings, that's who. We're tired of their crap overflowing into our country, so now it's time to do something about it.

By the way, what country was most of those guys from? Was it Saudi Arabia? Perhaps after we're done in Iraq, we should look south next.

Oh, I think if some Saudi women were to jump feet-first into industrial plastic shredders to show their solidarity with the Iraqi people, I'd certainly start to take them more seriously.
