Bush and Cheney don't pretend to identify with the poor, they just try to cut taxes and grow industry so it will create jobs.
The Democrats depend on a welfare state to get votes.
Take the homeless issue for example: They advocate "homeless rights" and self pride for the undomiciled, but you never see them doing anything to create jobs and get them off the street, because having "downtrodden" around to champion is one of the hallmarks of their campaign issues. The same with people on welfare. These are even more important to the Dems, because giving a free living to a voting constituency gets their votes.
They don't want to kill off a cash crop of voting human beings by improving their lives, they want to keep them exactly where they are.

Sophia: buying stock is a voluntary act, with lots of legal avenues to respond to fraud. Paying taxes is of course involuntary, and devoid of legal recourse.
