Sorry for the cliche, but it aptly describes a site from opensecrects.org, which details the total contributions for the 100 biggest givers in American politics since 1989. You may see the full list here, and here's a preview of the top five:

Are those red Democrat things asses? Er, excuse me, donkeys?
Posted by: Seth at July 5, 2003 01:22 AMseems the Democrats in the USA get donations from unions (IBEW for example) just like the Democrats in canada do.
IBEW is also a big donator on this side of the border for the New Democrat party.
I think it's a crime for membership money to be given to political parties.
All members of those unions who pay union dues don't all vote for democrats, so why should their money be used to promote one particular group? At the very least, all parties should get a equal donation, if any at all
In that companies and unions are social/financial constructs (not actual entities), they should be barred from making any donations at all. All contributions should be by individuals and all contributions should be a matter of public record. No limits, no restrictions.
If money won elections, Ross Perot and Steve Forbes would still be running this country, but it's not that simple. Money is not corrupting, any more than food is fattening or tests are stupid. The great tendency in the socialist state is to blame inanimate objects for the sins of the actors. Absolve everyone of their actions and forbid certain conduct lest someone hurt himself. It is an infantile approach to human interaction foisted on us by elites who "know" better than the great unwashed.
As William Penn said, "To deny a man his folly is to create a nation of fools." We're on our way.
