Irregularities | "House Dems Seek Election Inquiry"

Wired News:

Three congressmen sent a letter to the General Accounting Office on Friday requesting an investigation into irregularities with voting machines used in Tuesday’s elections…

[…various irregularities described…]

In their letter, representatives John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, Jerrold Nadler of New York and Robert Wexler of Florida asked the GAO to “immediately undertake an investigation of the efficacy of voting machines and new technologies used in the 2004 election, how election officials responded to difficulties they encountered and what we can do in the future to improve our election systems and administration.”

John Doty, spokesman for Nadler, said the congressmen emphasized that they were not seeking a nationwide recount and were not anticipating that an investigation would change the outcome of the election…

…No one was available at the office of the GAO to respond to questions. But a GAO representative told Wired News in September that the agency was planning to produce a report on e-voting after the election anyway.

The boneheads don’t stand a chance this time. There’s no way that the GOP could’ve “rigged” that big a popular vote to reinforce the electoral vote win.
They’re just empissoned because, due to that awesome popular vote, they can’t whine that W “stole” the election this time out.

I say let them knock themselves out, Making our elections more honest and reliable is in the interest of ALL citizens,

The fact that it would hurt the Democratic Party far more than the Republican or any other party is just a fortunate benifit.

Talk about unintended consequences. ;-)

This is about planting the seeds of doubt of course. Even if nothing went wrong, call for an inquiry so they can say Bush stole the election.

As long as they never have to acknowledge that Bush won fair and square, they never have to accept that he is the legitimate President.

Sad, but this is how the left works.

Yeah, talk about the usual suspects! Conyers, Nadler, and Wexler!! No hair, weird hair, and old nose hair himself… ha ha I’m surprised Nadler still has the power to get that weight up from a chair to drink the kool-aid. Like Dan said above, any changes to strengthen the laws and the technology, will certainly be a benefit to Republicans (who value accuracy and the law). Yup, they are running up against THE LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES! LoL

While we’re at it, let’s tighten up the voter rolls. Let’s make sure that, say, college kids don’t vote twice; once with mom and dad and once on campus. It should not be easier to vote than to buy alcohol or nicotine. We cleaned up truck driver licenses, we can clean up voter rolls.

I favor a push for more rigor in voting registration and on election day. I see no reason why official government picture ID should not be required to vote, or for absentee ballots that have to be mailed, free notarizing at government offices.

I believe there needs to be mass voter reform. A federal law should be passed that all persons registering to vote: should show ID along with proof of citizenship. Create a national voter roll to prevent voters living in more than one state for multiple voting. Allow voting in Engish only. The citizen test has to be passed in english so why should anyone need to read their ballot in another language. This will certainly hurt the democrats more than the republicans who believe for the most part in the rule of law.

Well, each State is going to have to determine what rules they apply to the process because the basis of voting is in the State’s purview. The only national election is the Presidential so that election is “piggy-backed” on state elections. It is a State’s responsibility and I do hope that those that found themselves vulnerable this time will take steps to improve their systems.
