Maine | MoveOn PAC at polling places
There was a MoveOn PAC representative at my polling place today. Inside the polling place. He was sitting at a table across from the check-in table and a few feet away from the ballot box, with a MoveOn PAC placard on the table. I’m not quite sure what he was doing, and he didn’t say a word to anyone while I was there. But it struck me as a little odd that a partisan group can set up a table inside a polling place. Illegal. Ask the polling officials to have them removed. If the polling officials do not comply, call the police. These setups are being routinely removed from within the legal perimeter across the country without much bother. In most of the cases that I’ve been reading about the moveon people are removing themselves when asked to do so by the polling officials. Only a few cases have required the intervention of the local police. Party workers and others may remain in the voting place outside the guardrail enclosure as long as they do not attempt to influence voters or interfere with their free passage. If any person attempts to influence voters or interfere with their free passage, the warden shall have him removed from the voting place. [1985, c. 161, §6 (new).] Posted by: BD Post a comment
