MUSCATINE, Iowa - Although Muscatine County is distributed nearly even among registered Republicans and Democrats, it’s the Republican candidates who are getting most of the money. Posted by Buster - InMuscatine.com A review of Federal Election Commission (FEC) records shows approximately $164,139 in political contributions coming from donors in Muscatine County, 97 percent of which went to Republican candidates and groups. The figures are a sharp contrast to the overall state totals of 35.9 percent of contributions going to Democrat candidates and groups and 63.7 percent going to Republican candidates and groups. The figures were listed for the 2004 election cycle, covering the last two years. Muscatine County has 9,960 registered Republicans, 7,717 registered Democrats and 11,106 registered Independents.
