What interests me is that Bush had close to a 5 point lead in the polls in 2000 and still lost the popular vote. For example, he was up 10-15 points in the polls in Ohio in 2000, but only carried the state by a few percent. This year the polls are a tossup in the big three states (Ohio, Pa. and Fla.). If they break late towards Kerry because of high Democratic turnout (and I expect the turnout to be way up this year) then Kerry wins. Add to this the fact that Gallup says that 8 out of 9 undecideds (at this late stage) who vote, end up voting against the incumbent. Maybe its wishful thinking, but I am finally getting mildly optimistic that Kerry just might pull this off.
