| Ad Uses Wolf Image To Attack Kerry

The Associated Press reports that a new TV ad using imagery of prowling wolves, suggests that under Kerry the country would be vulnerable to terrorists because “weakness attracts those who are waiting to do America harm:”

Reminiscent of Ronald Reagan’s Soviet “Bear” ad that was credited with helping frame the 1984 race, the commercial shows a dense forest from above. Scurrying is heard as the camera plunges deeper into the woods and pans sunlight-speckled trees. Shadows move through the brush before animals are seen amid the forest.

Then, the ad reveals the type of animal: A pack of wolves rest on a hill. As the commercial closes, the predators stir, moving toward the camera.

“In an increasingly dangerous world, even after the first terrorist attack on America, John Kerry and the liberals in Congress voted to slash America’s intelligence budget by $6 billion,” an ominous voice says in the ad. “Cuts so deep they would have weakened America’s defenses. And weakness attracts those who are waiting to do America harm.”

From California Yankee.

“Who’s afraid of the big, bad wolf?”
Sheesh.

I gotta admire their ability to boil issues down to the most child-like representations of good and evil, designed to provoke a response from the most reptilian depths of the electorate’s brainstems.

Sadly though, it shows a distinct lack of effort to appeal to (and an utter lack of respect for) a voter’s intellect or capabilty of rational thought.

Perhaps though this kind of fear based, “Be afraid! Vote for me! I’ll protect you!” advertising will supplant those nausea inducing attack ads?

Sounds like an excellent ad to me. It boils the issue down to a simple visual image that will stick with the viewer.

People need to be reminded of how horrific Kerry’s track record is on national security, and this looks like a good way to do it.

Elvis,

“child-like representations of good and evil”

I think you need to revisit this:
http://www.jeffhead.com/attack/

I will make this “child-like” for you: There is good and evil. The evil kills American innocents. Kerry himself said in the second debate, “These terrorists are serious, they’re deadly, and they know nothing except trying to kill.”

The wolves are an appropriate metaphor.

“how horrific Kerry’s track record is on national security”

I miss Andrew Jackson. I feel that people like you shouldn’t vote.

Bush’s national security record is atrocious. 9/11 could have been avoided (there was a report forwarning of a terrorist attack using hijacked planes for god’s sake! The Twin Towers were named as targets in that very report!!).

Bush’s own father didn’t oust Saddam specifically because of the quagmire America’s troops would be stuck in (he said so himself) yet Bush not only thought it would be smart to invade Iraq (a smart way to pad his pockets) but decided to do it with less than half the troops his own generals advised!

Do the country a favor and stay home on Nov. 2

redSun Is that all you got? Geeesh.

Oh yah… That part about how the TwinTowers were mentioned in a report. Be more specific. Would that be the first attack? That is the President’s fault?

Let’s see now - He caused the FluVaccine shortage, the Hurricanes in Florida… oh, never mind. It’s all his fault.

Do me a favor. Vote. PUHLEEEASE.

Excuse me for a moment. There’s a wolf at my FrontDoor.

Redsun:

There were also warning of using aircraft against nuclear reactors, aircraft against military installations, exploding ships in harbors - and there wasn’t anything SPECIFIC - like 4 guys on a flight with boxcutters. It’s kind of like getting a message from your bank saying you’re overdrawn - you know the problem but there’s a hell of a lot of detail left out.

Plus - why do I get the feeling if we HAD had complete details, you’d be screaming bloody murder about violated civil rights if the guys who actually did the deed had been aprehended BEFORE they could do what they’d planned?

Given the choice between cheap labor and our security, Bush chooses the cheap labor!

JLL3, there would have been no need for a “Minority Report” style arrest to avoid the hijackings. A simple steel door protecting the pilots would have stopped the boxcutter men (or anyone else) from crashing the planes anywhere. Not to mention airmarshals and a host of other security measures that could have been taken.

About the civil rights, I wouldn’t scream bloody anything, other people would do that for me. If we had the information we do now, a simple “No Fly” listing would have stopped them.

Cap’n DOC, I‘ve got a litany of complaints against Bush’s way of running this country into the ground. I only mentioned a couple because I don’t want to bore everyone with what they already know.

P.S. If I am to get drafted, it had better not be by some trigger-happy Texan.

RedSun:

A simple steel door wouldn’t have helped. Remember - the policy was to GIVE THE HIJACKERS FULL COOPERATION - not fight them.

That was before 9/11. Hijackings were ‘just a nuisance’.

Max,

I will make this “child-like” for you: There is good and evil.

Wait a a minute, wasn’t it the glorious former President (and actor) who said, “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”?
