HAARETZ: Robertson: If Bush ‘touches’ Jerusalem, we’ll form 3rd party

Influential American evangelist Pat Robertson said Monday that Evangelical Christians feel so deeply about Jerusalem, that if President George W. Bush were to “touch” Jerusalem, Evangelicals would abandon their traditional Republican leanings and form a third party.

“The President has backed away from [the road map] but if he were to touch Jerusalem, he’d lose all evangelical support,” Robertson said. “Evangelicals would form a third party” because, though people “don’t know about” Gaza, Jerusalem is an entirely different matter.

Puh-leeze!

This just sounds like some weight-throwing bluster from the ever kooky, ever self-important preacher-man. I’d say he’s just angling for some politcal leverage/clout within the party.

Ralphie Reed is running the Bush campaign in their most important region (and not coincidentally) most evangelical: The South. Translation: Their base is secure.

Forming a party out of this one plank would amount to a politcal one-trick pony.

Guess he’s hallucinating that it’s still the glory days of the unlamented “Moral Majority.” And what does he mean by ‘touch Jerusalem’, anyway?

I think he’s lost it.

Send that man a flawless red calf. There’s just Got to be one out there, somewhere.

Come on Pat…What ever happened to your mantra of “God is in Control”? If he is a Christian then should not he be putting his faith in the legitamacy of John’s Revelation? Does not the Bible dictate that President Bush or whomever is elected cannot and will not give over Jerusalem to the Palestinians?

Very odd statement by the Christian Conservatives. I’m surprised that someone of Pat’s caliber would give this issue any legitimate footing. I hope he’s just saying this to politick the Hasidic community in the holy town.

I think Robertson has been drinking his bathwater. Kinda reminds me of Jesse Jackson. Tries to place himself inside of big issues that really have no place for him. Publicity stunts.

Like JLL3 asked, “what does he mean by ‘touch Israel’ ” ?
