Bush | Drudge: Burkett to Sue CBS

Drudge reports Burkett will sue CBS:

CBS DOC SOURCE SET TO SUE NETWORK FOR LIBEL
Wed Sep 22 2004 00:05:20 ET

Bill Burkett, the man identified yesterday by CBS as the source of the controversial documents used in its September 8 “60 Minutes II” report questioning President Bush’s Air National Guard service, plans to sue the network, the NY SUN reports.

Burkett has had “several meetings with lawyers to determine the best course of action.” The planned lawsuit would center on “defamation of character and libel.”

In particular, Burkett is complaining that CBS promised to authenticate the documents:

“Bill Burkett went with CBS News on this over ABC News, the New York Times, and the Washington Post because they promised to work the hardest to protect him and authenticate the documents. ,” Mr.Van Os told the Sun. “Bill leveled with [CBS] about his doubts over the papers, and they promised him they would take their time. They spent all of three days, maybe less, on authentication.”

Bill leveled with [CBS] about his doubts over the papers

Does this mean CBS dug their grave just a little bit deeper when they “concluded” after an “investigation” they were “misled”?

This is getting to be very bad for CBS and the Kerry campaign. It looks like this affair will now run on into the debates as well and hog air time and newspaper columns too.

Boy, as for this Burkett character… talk about a highly “reliable” source? As I said in an earlier post… watch for Burkett to turn on the DNC and CBS big time now! Not good… if you are a MSM fan. Even the Gore campaign knew better to work with Burkett!

The latest news on the producer is that she is a BIG TIME liberal who does not try to hide her political views at all. She was the one who “broke” the prison scandal by releasing the photos, apparently knowing that this would hurt the President (and the country.) I doubt that she had anything on her “to do” list remotely hinting at a story against the Democrats or Kerry.

She will be the first to be fired by CBS as the heat ratchets up for some immediate action and not just moving methodically on a protracted investigation.

I for one would support removing CBS from the debates moderator role and any other similar non-partial roles during the election until the investigation is completed. That might be a catalyst to complete this before the election. Another kick in the pants would be the declining ratings and loss of ad revenue. If the DNC had any connection or prior knowledge that would have helped them in their “Operation Fortunate Son” campaign against the President, then that needs to be disclosed before the election and not afterwards.

If my memory is right, the Abu G photos were obtained by CBS under somewhat cloudy circumstances as well. Weren’t they part of an ongoing DoD investigation and “leaked” to CBS? Did that experience set up Mapes and Rather to be too hasty with the TANG “documents”?

What was the rush to get the story out if it was not to coincide with the DNC’s “Fortunate Son” campaign? Were they really afraid that someone else woudl break the story?

”we didn’t discuss the guard documents”

That statement is going down in history right next to ”I tried marijuana, but I didn’t inhale”…. ha ha

This was a coordinated effort and will be proven so. Dirty tricks by the dems. Hey, where are Lakhim and Don…..are they operatives for the dems in hiding right now? Even Carville looked pretty crap faced tonight on O’reilly….I think these boys know they are about to be outed.

”we didn’t discuss the guard documents”

Maybe they were trading recipes.

Let the finger-pointing commence.

None of this would be happening without the analysis of a milllion eyes.

Dan Rather and Bill Burkett can both take a flying leap as far as I’m concerned.

Read on Foxnews that the poor CBS affiliates are really feeling the pinch.

Excerpt from a station manager:

Lee said he can’t recall any other issue getting such a big response from viewers.

“Hah-hah! I said, Hah-hah!”
