| DNC Chair Issues Statement about CBS Memos

From the DNC website :

Washington, D.C. - In response to false Republican accusations regarding the CBS documents, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued this statement:

In today’s New York Post, Roger Stone, who became associated with political ‘dirty tricks’ while working for Nixon, refused to deny that he was the source the CBS documents.

“Will Ed Gillespie or the White House admit today what they know about Mr. Stone’s relationship with these forged documents? Will they unequivocally rule out Mr. Stone’s involvement? Or for that matter, others with a known history of dirty tricks, such as Karl Rove or Ralph Reed?”

Where ya been, Terry? AWOL? Ooooh. Okay. I take that back. I’ll bet you were Cambodia for Christmas, weren’t you?

Quotes from The Sting LINK

[Figuring out which con to pull on Lonnegan(Dan Rather)]
J.J. Singleton : I dunno know what to do with this guy, Henry. He’s an Irishman who doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, and doesn’t chase dames. He’s a grand knight in the Knights of Columbus, and he only goes out to play faro. Sometimes plays 15 or 20 hours at a time, just him against the house.
Henry Gondorff : Roulette? Craps?
J.J. Singleton : He won’t touch ‘em. The croupier at Gilman’s says he never plays anything he can’t win.
Henry Gondorff : Sports?
J.J. Singleton : Likes to be seen with fighters sometimes, but he doesn’t go to the fights or bet on ‘em.
Henry Gondorff : Jesus. Does he do anything where he’s not alone?
J.J. Singleton : Just poker and Bush-bashing And he cheats. Pretty good at it, too.

More from the creative imagination of Terry McAuliffe:

Lonnegan (Rather) sits in a chair smoking, obviously still upset.
Floyd paces in front of him.

FLOYD (Mapes)
I know I give him four threes. We
can’t let him get away with that.

LONNEGAN (Rather)
What am I supposed to do? Call him
for cheating better than me?

There’s a knock at the door. Floyd goes and opens it. It’s
Hooker.

HOOKER (Burkett)
My name’s Carver. Mr. Shaw (Lucy Ramirez) sent me.

Floyd (Mapes) motions him in without a word.

LONNEGAN (Rather)
Your boss is quite a card player,
Carver. How does he do it?

HOOKER (Burkett)
(very matter-of-factly)
He cheats.

And I’m quite sure that somebody from the republican party held a gun to Rather’s head and threatened him with death if he didn’t run with the story, right?

This is just silly, just plain silly.

By the way, I refuse to deny that I was the source of the documents too. Anybody else who refuses to deny, please feel free.

Since it comes from McAuliffe, who has the credibility, conscience and sense of shame of a lawyer defending a child pornographer, this is likely a bunch of b.s.

If, by the wildest stroke of fortune, this is true, then I think we have to conclude that the Bush campaign people are MUCH smarter than the Kerry people. First, the Kerry people and all of their unofficial surrogates fell for memos that didn’t last an hour once published. Second, they’re continuing to draw attention to this nonsense by beating the glue bottle containing the remnants of the horse they’ve been beating for so long, while having to explain why it is they were coordinating their message with CBS’s story.

If Senator Windsock can’t assemble a decent campaign staff (we can’t blame him for McAuliffe — the Clintons, bless them, hung Terry around SW’s neck), what reason is there to believe that he can run any Federal agency, let alone the whole show?

Well now I’m confused. Was it the RNC that put together and ran with “Fortunate Son”?

One of the biggest pleasures of watching Kerry lose in November will be seeing McAuliffe uncerimoniously dumped from politics shortly afterward. It will be bittersweet, though; he has been an unmitigated disaster for the Democratic party, and for that he deserves the nation’s thanks.

TL — Excellent point. How can anyone look at the Kerry-Edwards campaign and conclude that JFKerry has any ability to run anything, let alone the Executive branch of the federal government?

It’s not like he has another job competing for his attention (in contrast to GWB); he and Edwards have basically ignored the Senate for over a year.

Kerry is easily the worst major presidential candidate in my lifetime (and I voted for Carter [shudder]).

Makes one wonder that maybe ol’ Carl has a mole inside the DNC that actually developed the Fortunate Son campaign at just the right time to coincide with the RNC’s planting of the fake documents who then got the Bush bashing CBS folks to go for it hook line and sinker while getting talking points on the very same documents prepared for Sen. Harkin and others to run out with within 12 hours! Amazing!!!

I can see this thread as easily as I can see Lucy the mysterious woman… who will now be accused of being a Republican operative, no doubt.

Get the fathometer ready… somebody’s campaign is heading into deep water with no bilge pumping system working!

I can’t stand to watch McAuliffe; he is so sleazy and mindless. People like that make me want to slug them, so i turn the other channel…ha ha I’m with you jackson zed, watching the drumbeat on election night will be very satisfying. And the backbiting against old Terry will be something fierce….the dems will remember he brought them losses in 2002, and they will be out for his scalp. I hope they catch him…. ha ha ha
