2004 US Presidential Election
September 16, 2004
Polls | 54-40, or Fight?
So, is the race close or not? National polls - which, one should recall, only capture the mood of the electorate, since the battle is won or lost on a state-by-state basis - seem to be divided: A new poll from the Pew Research Center said the “bounce” that seemed to propel Bush to a lead just after the Republican convention had disappeared. But he was ahead by double digits in another survey. (Link via The Kerry Spot) Posted by Baseball Crank at September 16, 2004 10:12 PM | TrackBack Comments
I’m still thinking it’s gonna be Bush by 10 points at least. Kerry’s lack of positions on anything is hurting him and the Swiftees isn’t helping at all. Is he THAT stupid to think that a generation and a half is a enough to make us FORGET his testimony in ‘71? Come on…I was 4 years old in ‘71 but I had read his testimony in friggin HIGH SCHOOL. You are a famous man Senator….and yer fame is gonna keep you from the Whitehouse. It’s interesting that you have one MORE thing in common with your senior Senator. Posted by: Wayne Fielder Kinda interesting because Chris Matthews reported the tightened numbers tonight with some glee. And a bunch of nodding heads. If Gallup comes out tomorrow with 54-40, I am going to watch to see if he is in the least bit red faced….or if the frick even mentions it at all. Its about time for the Swifties to ‘bring it on’ again. Posted by: dickmr I saw both the presidents speech and kerrys speech at the National Guard conference in Las Vegas at one point bush got a standing ovation….. kerry on the other hand got a polite reaction (even on issues that affect the guard) kerry looks so disintrested when he talks to a crowd that is not his supporters Posted by: navyvetagainstkerry Watched the talk Zogby gave on C-Span2 (saw it yesterday, I think and can”t find listing - any help appreciated) . My take on what he said was that he was coaching press types on what Kerry needed to do to save his campaign based on detailed polling data. The crunch point came when he said that if the polls start to show much separation there would be a piling on effect and it would be all over for Kerry. I add this (which admittedly is a ‘feeling’ I got watching Zogby talk) to the fact that his polls are ‘outliers’ when compared to the others (I recommend RealClearPolitics.com to view historical poll data). What I come up with is that Zogby may be trying to help Kerry by slanting his polls. The phenomenon we may be seeing is the partisan elements of the MSM wrecking themselves because they see this election as that important. Big drama. Zogby had fairly accurate polls in 2000, but got it wrong big time in 2002. I predict he will be wrong again in 2004 by at least 12 points. Posted by: jdwill I would hope that Zogby isn’t trying to inflate numbers. But there is one thing that irritates me, and that is when a poller like Zogby sits around giving tips to campaigns on how to improve their numbers. Let the campaign consultants figure that out themselves. And if they can’t, then tough luck. It feels like open source politics and it’s frustrating when to see pick me up tips for one party while the party you want to win is gaining momentum. Posted by: Stephen_ FWIW I‘n not opposed to open source in general. The blogosphere is essentially open sourced analytical thinking. If Zogby wants to lay out what he thinks Kerry should do and does so in the open, then any news consumer can make their mind up about Zogby’s other reporting. What I find fascinating is the possibility that there may be some kind of mass denial going on in the MSM. If BC04 is the blowout I think it will be, then the wailing and lamentation of the Dems will be comparable to the Arab media after they found that Tommy Franks was NOT in a quagmire and was in fact kicking their boy Saddam’s A$$ in gold medal record time. For starters, I submit as evidence: Posted by: jdwill http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/usatoday/20040917/ts_usatoday/bushclearleaderinpoll&e=3 By Susan Page, USA TODAY Among registered voters, Bush is ahead 52%-44% Posted by: DevilDoc It’s difficult for me to believe either one has much of a lead. Drum beat of terrible daily news from Iraq,W speaking as if it’s Hollywood. It pisses me off honestly. We’re in a terrible dilemma there due to the incompetence of Bush. We probably did need half a million soldiers on the ground originally, they entirely missed the point of Iraqi resistance, factoring ONLY the Iraqi Army into the equation. Then we have Kerry,a man who feels more comfortable with Jacques Chirac than with one of us. Both are ridiculous candidates,IMO. Lord,I’m voting for Bush again, but he clearly does NOT deserve my vote this time around. Too many mistakes in Iraq to deserve re-election. Posted by: FireballXL5 Fireball, The Media are telling anything they can to hurt America, as usual. Go read the Iraqi Bloggers or go to Captain’s Quarters Blog. Read the Marine Major’s post This is Reality. NO one on the left wants the Truth to be known, so they CONSTANTLY stress the lies. They want America and Iraq to lose, as John Kerry said yesterday.
