The Command Post
2004 US Presidential Election

| Observation 2

I look at the president right now and see a man who believes with his entire being that he is doing the right thing for America.

Just my humble opinion.

Let me add this, written by Stephen Green here:

Watching, listening to Bush’s tribute to fallen soldiers and their families, I remember the pride I felt in him when he held that bullhorn at Ground Zero.

Nuance? None. Backtracking? Zero. Calculation? There, probably, but undetectable.

Tell me I’m not the only one who sees all that.

I see it, too.

Notice: Not drawing any connection between any figures here, nor am I comparing anyone to anyone else.

So did Hitler (for Germany). The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Well if you weren’t making a connection or comparing, what was your point?

Posted by: Michele [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 2, 2004 11:20 PM

The last sentence works. Good intentions mean nothing.

Posted by: Lakhim [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 2, 2004 11:28 PM

Lakhim:

OMG! You’re right. We, and especially you right now, should all just stop trying. Just stop. Maybe raise vegetables. Oh no wait, that’s a good intention. Uh. Maybe we should all just start… oh wait, trying to think of a good thing to do instead is a good intention. What a horrible road to hell we’ve paved.

Or did we?

It’s easy to be a critic. Just make broad sweeping statements that barely apply. If you had thought your argument through then you would have realized that your proposition is basically to no longer do anything unless it is intentionally bad.

Being a good critic, now that takes skill.

Except this isn’t really news (Op-ed), and even then, it is a bit lacking for op-ed, considering that good intentions mean nothing.

Man, Lakhim triggers Godwin’s Law right off the bat. I admire the efficency, if nothing else.

Besides the fact that I disclaimed that there was no comparison.

Freiler’s Maxim. Look it up.

Lakhim seems to be ascribing ‘good intentions’ to Hitler. Nauseating swine.

Posted by: TomTom [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2004 12:14 AM

Care to argue that Hitler did not have good intentions for his people?

Posted by: Lakhim [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2004 12:24 AM

“Besides the fact that I disclaimed that there was no comparison.”

Logically, one cannot claim protection from criticism by saying that you are not trying to make a comparison, but then going ahead and making a comparison anyway.

And ‘Freiler’s Maxim’ only works when one can prove the assertion of GL is incorrect, which in this case it isn’t, given how obvious the comparison to Hitler is in your first post.

Hitler also had a dog, held rallies where his political opponents were accused of treasonous activity and opened up a second front which overstretched his military.

I know. I read it in books.

Yes I do care to argue Mr. Lakhim.

As it turned out what was best for Hitlers people ended up being Hitler. There were no people in the end, other than his mistress.

It might be instructive for you to read,”On the Road to Serfdom” by Hayak; a seminal book on how good intentions lead to facism.

Lakhim is a cynic

He knows the price of everything

and the value of nothing

Don’t let the libs rub you the wrong way….they are crashing and burning! Kerry is out tonight talking about his issues which appear petty compared to the vision the President has…. I hope Kerry uses the Hollywood is the heart and soul of America line!! Hey Lakhim, were you one of the guys that fumigated the copy machine that Whoppi stradled to get the picture of her BUSH? I saw it, it didn’t look like George, but sorta looked like YOU….once you got past the cooties!

Posted by: dickmr [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2004 04:44 AM

Dick-

Crashing and burning? This race is neck and neck even after your little bounce yesterday, well within the margin of error of any poll. You haven’t won crap yet, and you stand a good chance of losing.

Tomtom-

He did have good intentions for his people (the german ‘folk’). Look it up

Tagryn-

I was not saying that Bush was Hitler, I was pointing out that good intentions mean nothing. Learn the difference. The above poster incorrectly invoked Godwin’s Law.

Posted by: Lakhim [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2004 11:17 AM

President Bush gave a very effective speech.

The polls will show their reaction in a couple days or so.

Kerry’s screeching response suggests he has had a hull breach.

It’s over now, it will just take time to show the damage done to the SS John-John.

After all, the Titanic hit the iceberg long before it finally went under.
