New York | Zell Miller And The Dark Lord Of The Sith
All day, Zell has been the buzz. Zell’s speech and Zell’s spat with Chris Mathews. You thought it would fade by noon, but in reality, it was noon before enough people had seen the Mathews exchange for them to have an opinion. The right-spin: “Zell killed ‘em in the hall and he Killed Mathews, too,” The left-spin: “Zell looked crazy in the hall, and he looked crazy on Mathews, too.” Much of the left-spin has involved ad hominem … descriptions of Zell as a lunatic who bordered on spiteful (if not vicious). Indeed, Al Franken is the only left-spinner I heard debate the merits of Zell’s speech, getting into it with Medved about who voted against what, when. But that’s the conversation. I can tell you from my experience in the hall: Zell killed, crazy or not. The crowd took their feet when he took the stage, and didn’t leave their feet until he left the stage. Zell wasn’t the rabid one … that was the delegates. And the whole thing made Cheney look like your nice ol’ Uncle Ben by comparison … something that I’ve heard some folks on the left today say was intentional. Not something I believe. Rove is pretty smart, but intentionally having Miller look like the Dark Lord of the Sith so that Cheney looks like Uncle Ben? Now that would be genius, eh? Put that in the file for next time … Posted by Alan at September 2, 2004 06:19 PM | TrackBack Comments
The tragedy of this entire exercise is that the truth and consequently the best interest of the average American gets lost in all the partisan zeal. Zell grotesquely misrepresented the facts of the Kerry voting record, as did Cheney and other speakers that sought to elevate their value at the expense of the Democrats. Most of the votes that Zell sited were pork heavy bills that both Cheney and or McCain also rejected. All of this is a matter of record if anyone is interested, but that is not the case with the majority of voters on both sides. We are all being misled; we are all encouraged to choose sides. We’re being given incomplete information that is structure to produce an inaccurate impression. Whether you wear the red uniform or blue uniform the American people loose and government and corporate interest win. The record, tactics and results of this administration is indisputable when you cut through the partisan spin and examine the facts. The best thing about Kerry-Edwards is that we don’t yet know that they’re liars. The RNC is using people like Zell, Giuliani and Arnold Schwarzenegger to lure moderates, undecided and new voters to their side. But again, at closer examination there is a lot of questionable information coming from these speeches. I have not heard anything during this convention but rhetoric reminiscent of a tent revival and one can only discount the enthusiasm in the Garden as that of fanatics who are incapable of seeing through the mist of their own stupor. Furthermore the snide comments and quips that seem to represent the character of the current Republican party does nothing more than drive thinking people away. And frankly having one really rich guy tell me not to vote for another really rich guy because he’s rich is baffling. Posted by: JRob This thinking person (University of Chicago), and veteran (USN) just loved the Miller speech. So did my first mate. She normally would prefer to vote for a Democrat. Zell had her standing on her chair too: Let me splain the women’s vote this year for the clueless. 1. There is a war on This is so true it is a cliche’. I thought libs and dems were in touch with the common man. Clueless. You don’t win in a war by running a girlie man. The Dems knew this and ran Hero Kerry. Turns out the heroism was not exactly as represented. And then you have 30 years of anti-war activity to explain. Not very smart. —==— Why is the DoD checking on Kerry’s Medals? Because tampering with Military Records is a Federal Crime. Kerry took so many shots tonight he is elligible for two more Purple Hearts - Leno Posted by: M. Simon Post a comment
