New York | Bush To Deliver Speech "In The Round"
This from the RNC:
The Convention Floor at Madison Square Garden will be closed from 11:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, September 1st, until tomorrow, Thursday, September 2nd at approximately 2:00 p.m. for the construction of a theater-in-the-round. This unique stage will the first of its kind ever used at a national political convention. The stage is being constructed for the use of President George W. Bush when he delivers his nomination acceptance speech on Thursday night, September 2nd.
Also referred to as an arena stage, central stage or island stage, a theater-in-the-round is a form of theater construction in which the stage is completely surrounded by the audience. The setting is another way the 2004 Republican National Convention will be the most unique in the Republican Party’s history.

So is it going to revolve, or is he going to turn every few minutes, or what? I love experimental theater, but not sure what the point is.

Actually the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo uses a theater in the round revolving stage for the nightly featured entertainment. Maybe that will be what will be used. It’s quite effective in Houston because the audience can see the stage performers the entire time and at some point everyone in the audience is facing the stage.
