New York | Faith-Based Priorities For The Second Term
Jim Towey, Director of the White House office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives, just spent 10 minutes here in Blogger’s Corner. My question: “What are the top three items of the faith-based agenda for a new term?”
His response (paraphrased unless in quotes):
- “Ending discrimination against faith-based groups at the state and local level.” There are 21 governors actively supporting faith-based programs in the states … the White House wants to “get to 50.”
- Maintain and protect the initiatives the President has started … one in particular, mentoring children of prisoners.
- Start looking at initiating more voucher programs. The Office of FBCI started with vouchers for drug treatment, for example, and he would look to expand that type of programs to other needs given four more years.
