| Kerry Shake Up?
The Kerry campaign has announced several staff additions amid reports that a shake-up is in the works. Ex-Clinton spokesman Joe Lockart was named as a senior adviser and Joel Johnson, a former Clinton staffer, is becoming director of rapid response. Political Wire has more here and here. This is kinda interesting on a couple of levels. First, because of all of The War Hero’s schoolgirlish whining about the SwiftBoat ads and 527’s, our self-proclaimed smarter candidate (although I guess the putz who’s destroying the NYTs agrees with him) has a very limited bullpen from which to select his relievers. All the real seasoned talent is already employed by all the liberal 527 groups and it would be the FlipFlop of the summer if he hired somebody from one of them under these conditions. If this is how he strategizes, I wouldn’t hire Kerry to paint your floor anytime soon. Second, after the signal flare of desperation Kerry shot off when he challenged Bush to weekly debates, this looks like Kerry’s hitting the panic button. It just reaks of leadership and fitness for command, don’t you think. Third, this obviously reflects a millionaire/billionaire/somebody-who-spends-other-people’s -money sensibility. Lockhart and company aren’t cheap. What’s Lockhart going to do that his campaign isn’t doing already? Is there another way to not address the Swiftees’ allegations that they haven’t thought of? Wouldn’t it be a lot cheaper and effective to simply release all of his records and face a press conference or an interview with somebody considered a tough interview? Our system is a grind, and can be very painful for all involved, but it does have a way of exposing candidates’ limitations. Posted by: TL I’m worried. Watching Kerry address the vets. He no longer looks like a pompous, arrogant, cold fish. Maybe he’s been humbled enough that he lost his entitlement superiority. We can’t count him out. He can still be tough. Posted by: thedragonflies Kerry’s a survivor, no doubt about it. But he’s also a stiff, pendantic, monotonal speaker so I’m not worried about it too much. Posted by: skip I dont understand why everyone hates Kerry so much. When he spoke out against the war he did it as a veteran. He quoted other people. He did it so other people would not have to die for a war that was unwinnable. Kerry did not complain about hte war until after he had gone and fought in it. Bush and Clinton and many others avoided going to Vietnam - fine - but Kerry went and has the right to say the war was wrong. And it sounds stupid for us to say he didnt earn his medals. Which ones? Are we saying that they are all false?? Why dont you make a real argument to the undecides like higher taxes for the rich or pro-choice.? Real arguments! Posted by: veteran34 I understand why some people hate him. He broke faith, pure and simple and they’ve lived with it for a long time and now they’re confronting it. Frankly, Kerry’s conduct is a real issue. So is his judgement. His past actions are a means of predicting his future behavior so yes, these things are important. Are there other things that are important? Sure there are but we’re in a war, and we’re chosing a commander in Chief. Are you advocating higher taxes? For the “rich” or anybody else? If so, good luck here. Are you pro choice that is are you using the code words for Pro abortion? Again, good luck with that. Your post sounds like a Kerry apologia, did I read it correctly?
