2004 US Presidential Election
August 31, 2004
| Noonan & Pataki
Something to look for on Thursday night: A talking head on Charlie Rose just said that Peggy Noonan is writing Pataki’s speech. The 2008 lineup gets bigger and bigger … Posted by Alan at August 31, 2004 12:26 AM | TrackBack Comments
Peggy Noonan is one of my all-time heroes. It was reading her memoir, What I Saw at the Revolution, that first turned me on to the thought that maybe, just maybe, conservatism might not be as bad as I, in my infinite, 22-year-old wisdom, thought it was. My only reservation is that her prose sometimes outruns her speaker. Quoting “High Flight” or “these are the boys of Pointe du Hoc” worked for Reagan; he could carry it. Her “thousand points of light” was a brilliant and beautiful metaphor, but 41 wasn’t quite, quite up to the task. He almost had it, you could see that he understood it in his heart, but he couldn’t quite sell it. Will Governor Pataki be up to it? I have no idea. But in the end, I don’t really care. They say Lincoln’s delivery of the Gettysburg Address was high-pitched and difficult to hear. But we still memorize the words in school. It’s the words that matter, not the delivery, despite what three generations of TV politics would lead us to believe. Posted by: Jeff Harrell Pataki must be stopped. tell Peggy to damn well duck. Posted by: TC-LeatherPenguin Pataki is no bueno. He has little or no hope of winning a national election. I hope. Pataki was always two steps away, he didn’t do anything, he just tried to glom onto Rudy’s leadership. He was in every shot. He reminded me of that dog in the cartoon, “What are we gonna to do today George?” Posted by: Veeshir Post a comment
