2004 US Presidential Election
August 30, 2004
| RNC: Here and There
Well, it’s only the first day and there’s nothing all that exciting going on, but we are determined to bring you more coverage than the Big Three networks. Which won’t be hard.
An Al-Jazeera camera crew sidled up to South Dakota Senate candidate John Thune on Monday and tried to ask some questions after he finished a live shot on MSNBC. But Thune kept walking after his campaign manager, Dick Wadhams, realized the crew was from the Arab-language satellite TV network, which many U.S. conservatives say is biased against the United States. And what about celebrity sightings? Rumor has it that “the Repub celebrity quotient is decidedly lower than the Democrat.” Then again, the depends on what your idea of a celebrity is. For some, foreign policy adviser Tucker Eskew passes the celeb test. Well, there’s always Don King. I can understand candidates at any level not wanting to empower Al Jazeera or “go postal” on them, but wouldn’t it be a treat to report in real time, a Veteran of one of the Gulf Wars (Smash?) get medieval with their news crew (figuratively of course)? Posted by: ter0 Political misfortune http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/electionline.htm A lawmaker from the battleground state of Ohio handed out red, white and blue fortune cookies to Republican convention delegates Monday. A sampling of the fortunes inside Rep. Mike Turner’s cookies: - “During Kerry’s first term he would: a) raise taxes or b) surrender to France.” - “Kerry Cabinet: Michael Moore, National Intelligence Director.” - “Waffling is for breakfast, not for presidents.” Posted by: Grand Ayatollah Nathan The problem with Al Jazzera is no matter what you say to them, it would be spun to something anti- Bush. I hope they checked them very carefully for Allah bombs. Posted by: Grand Ayatollah Nathan Post a comment
