| Dem Mailing Warns Vote or Be Drafted

According to the Associated Press via Fox News, a South Carolina Democratic party mailing warns recipients to vote or be drafted:

The first page of the mailing shows a draft notice with orders to report to a military induction center. The next shows a helicopter with troops in the foreground beneath a headline that says “Officials in Washington are calling for more troops in Iraq.” Below, the mailing asks “Which form would you rather fill out?”

Republicans say the mailing is off-base.

“That’s the worst of all political worlds — when you have a deceptive, despicable tactic of saying you are going to be drafted to go to war if you don’t register to vote,” said Katon Dawson, state Republican Party chairman. “In a time of war, to use that piece of mail, I think speaks volumes of where they are as a party.”

From California Yankee.

Anyone see the irony in the fact that it’s Sen. Hollings (D-SC) who has introduced a bill bringing back the draft? That all the sponsors of the bring back the draft bill are Democrats?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Don’t forget Charles Rangel.

That sneaky Army keeps saying they are meeting their quota too. Who should I believe?

This is the Democratic Party which wants to debate “the issues” (snicker)?

Nothing coming from the socialist party shccks me anymore. It’s almost to a point where they try to see how bizarre of a statement they can make and get away with it.

Real leadership material. :) my )) off.

Politics ain’t beanbag, folks. They have to motivate their base, and this is part of how they do it.

Lets see, those supporters are down to women who are proud of their abortions, gays who enjoy promiscuity and sex with boys, ex-cons for Kerry, and one fat guy that Kerry pulled out of a river. That base should be motivated without threatening the draft. Oh, I forgot the local supporters like Don, Lakhim, and the Great Jatsby! The water is dripping dripping against Kerry, and further shoes are about to drop. Wait until the leaks of his record show up…..first will be the admission the first purple heart came from a self inflicted wound (Chris Matthews should apologize for being a neanderthal on that one)….. after a few days of Americans digesting that one….more will come out after the convention, just as the book ‘Unfit for Command’ hits its stride and Kerry is down 10 points in the polls. Then the dem will REALLY lose it….lets see Kerry and Dean at the anarchist rally in New York, that should sway the independents!! ha ha ha Enough for now, I’m going out driving in my SUV looking for Jatsby, either in the puddle jumper he has, or the SUV his family owns!

It is really unbelievable the number of irrefutable discrepencies Kerry has been accused of. I’ve read excerpts from “Unfit” and have been following blogs on Moveamericaforward.com. It seems that the “V” for valor on Kerry’s Silver Star—which is displayed on his website—is not shown in military records (accessible over the internet) Another very unusual fact about the Silver Star is that there are THREE citations for it!! This is just not done. The third one was written after 1981—though it’s not dated—it’s signed by Lehman as Secretary of the Navy. It omits the detail of Kerry shooting a fleeing enemy soldier in the back, which is included in the original citation. The lies just go on and on and on. How can Kerry supporters be so incredibly blind to this man’s character and ruthless ambitions? God help us!

My son at college is telling us that the students for Kerry on campuses are going around to anyone who will listen trying to run this “you’ll be drafted by Bush” B.S. When confronted with the facts (my son knew from my own previous active duty experience and having previous known about the firm denials by the JCS and DOD about the draft), one of the young libs admitted that they hope to recreate the massive backlash caused by mostly white males on campuses in the late 60s when they chose to be against the war for fear of being drafted into it. Asked if the facts mattered, the young Kerry-in-waiting stated, “Won’t you neo-cons ever learn? It is the end that justify the means and our way is the only way it can be.”

Gee… I thought we fought and won the Cold War earlier? Sure sounds like a familiar Soviet and Marxist egotistical come back to me. Have those ol’ Commie fellas also come back?

Yes, the “Draft is coming back” meme is pretty ironic, considering that it is only Democrats who have suggested it (Hollings and Rangel).

But what if it did come back? Is there something so terrible about a draft? A lot of countries have a military/public service requirement (Israel, Germany come to mind). Though I am a college graduate, I spent two years as an enlisted person in the Army and found the experience very rewarding. Granted, I did not see combat, but I was trained as an infantry rifleman (11B) so that possibility was always there.

I think that if anyone is objecting about a draft, it should be the military itself — they don’t want to take in people with poor attitudes who are not familiar with hard work — like many college students today. The military is serious business.

What a disgusting tactic. No one wants the draft except people who claim they’re against it. When the Democrats have no ideas of their own I guess the only tactics left are deception and fear.

Here’s the President’s clear and unequivocal response to this same issue, from an interview with Tom Brokaw in June:

-

Brokaw: “During World War II, FDR had the draft. He could summon as many men and women as he needed to serve in the armed forces.”

Bush: “Right.”

Brokaw: “Some people are beginning to believe that the United States is going to need the draft again, because we’re putting such a strain not only on a regular military, but also on the reserve forces and on the National Guard. As you do your projections, do you think that the draft will ever return to America?”

Bush: “No.”

Brokaw: “Think it’s a bad idea?“

Bush: “I do. I think the volunteer force is necessary and been the model of efficiency.”

-

Unfortunately this portion of the interview was never shown on TV. How convenient for them.

This is simply the Democrats doing what they accuse Bush of: fear and smear.

Such hypocrasy.

Right on, Skip…

If anyone cares to read Rangel’s statements from last spring, he also adds that we need the draft because African Americans are bearing an overwhelming brunt of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Huh? When I last reviewed Pentagon data on the military, the African American percentage was just a little over the national average and way down from the 60s and 70s.

Rangel and the Dems are trying to conjure up more ghosts from Viet Nam to scare the middle class into thinking that their sons and daughters are going to snatched off the campuses and sent out as cannon fodder.

Can’t happen… the draft system is in such as poor state that it will take upwards to three years to just get it going again. Most of if not all of the Reserved manned Mob Centers have not been exercised in years and probably can not even achieve a partial manning status if activated.

As of about 12 months ago, I personally reviewed the needs to upgrade the draft system from a planning standpoint and that the military had no plans to activate or fix the system… period.
