| Poll Shows Negative Kerry Bounce

A new CNN-USA Today Gallup poll shows that the DNC bounce favors President Bush. Reuters reports:

The poll of about 1,000 respondents on Friday and on Saturday showed President Bush garnering 50 percent to 47 percent for the new Democratic nominee, Sen. John Kerry; Bush trailed Kerry among likely voters earlier in July, 47 percent to 49 percent. Independent candidate Ralph Nader had 2 percent.

USA Today reports that this is the first time in the Gallup Poll since the 1972 Democratic convention that a candidate lost ground during his convention.

From the California Yankee Web Site:

It appears that the Wendy’s stop was suppose to be a photo op only. Kerry and Edwards originally maintained it was to celebrate the Edwards’ anniversary. Read additionally that:

Kerry’s Wendy’s Stop Just Another Photo Op Gone Bad
The Kerry/Edwards Wendy’s stop for the Edwards’ anniversary celebration was nothing more than a photo op. According to MidHudsonNews.com the real lunches were waiting on the bus:

A member of the Kerry advance team called Nikola’s Restaurant at the Newburgh Yacht Club the night before and ordered 19 five-star lunches to go that would be picked up at noon Friday. Management at the restaurant, which is operated by CIA graduate chef Michael Dederick, was told the meals would be for the Kerry and Edwards families and actor Ben Affleck who was with them on the tour.

The gourmet meals to go included shrimp vindallo, grilled diver sea scallops, prosciutto, wrapped stuffed chicken, and steak salad. The meals came to about $200.

The entourage had also expected to stop at the Alexis Diner at Route 9W and North Plank Road in the Town of Newburgh. In fact, the Kerry advance team had ordered 125 lunches for the team and supporters.

I wonder if the deceit was worth it, considering the encounter with the Marines.

Kerry’s campaign manager hasn’t had a good week with photo ops. First we had Kerry’s Dukakis moment in the “bunny suit,” then his silly salute during his acceptance speech, and yesterday’s encounter with the Marines.

Thanks to Betsy for the tip.
