While Bush was in Chicago, Kerry was at the National Urban League Conference in Detroit. Read the local Detroit News coverage here. Bush will speak to the conference today.

Kerry’s suggestions, mainly more money for urban programs, have already been tried and failed in Detroit.

Detroit has some of the highest taxes in Michigan. No one wants to live there because it is unsafe, has bad roads, and very few new employers. Furthermore, our mayor and his staff are minorities. They have preferential treatment for minorities already, and it has not improved the situation down town any.

Everything Kerry said simply pandered to the people, contrary to what he said it was just a check-box stop on his campaign trail. The unions here have already decided to back him, and every union shop I visit has anti-Bush newsletters posted.
