Edwards | One Way Edwards May Help ...

… campaign donations. At least that’s the analysis of the LA Times / ContraCosta Times, which notes that having Edwards on the ticket will have trial attorneys (and some others) “jumping over the moon” to donate to the Dem cause.

He may bring in a lot of money, but I sense that for every dollar he brings in from trial lawyers, he brings a dollar fifty to the Republicans from corporations who do not want to see the litigation lottery continue.

As noted this morning in the WSJ, Edwards is the perfect democratic candidate: he incites class-war and envy with his “Two Americas” speech while hypocritically sheltering over 90% of his income in an “S” corporation.

Forgive me for not memorizing the details, but the gist of the article: it was the democrats that removed the ‘caps’ on Medicare taxes (to catch RICH tax-dodgers) and yet when Edwards rakes in $26 million plus over 4 years, he forms his own “S” corporation and pays himself a salary of $360,000 while sheltering the rest as ‘corporate profits’. The IRS has successfully prosecuted miscreants in the past who use such transparent tax dodges, but what do you want to bet - no one’s going to bring this up, no one’s going to go after Edward’s unpaid taxes?

The lesson to learn from Kerry-Edwards? There are Two Americas: just make sure you’re in the one that allows rich trial lawyers to duck the responsibilities they heartily assign to the great, unwashed masses.

As their role model Leona Helmsley once opined, “Taxes are for the little people.”
