| Richardson Won't Be Kerry's Running Mate
The Associated Press reports that New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson has withdrawn from consideration as Kerry’s running mate. Richardson’s withdrawal came after a two-hour meeting with Kerry on Tuesday in Phoenix. Richardson, 56, was a New Mexico congressman from 1982 to 1997. President Clinton appointed him U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in 1997, and a year later put him in charge of the Energy Department. From California Yankee. The rationale here was that Richardson could help with Hispanic votes in New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. Since Gore barely carried New Mexico with less than 500 votes, I thought the Demons were really thinking of Richardson. Interesting that they are not. Posted by: leaddog2 at July 2, 2004 10:59 AM Richardson probably looked at Ferraro’s career after running with Mondale and losing. Then, he looked at Kerry’s actual chances - and decided he’d rather maintain his viability. J.
