Kerry | Kerry with Slight Lead Over Bush in NJ

A new poll has Kerry leading Bush, only slightly, in the Democratic leaning state of New Jersey.

Democratic challenger John Kerry has a slight lead over President Bush in New Jersey, a state Al Gore won by 16 percentage points in 2000, according to a poll released Wednesday.

Kerry had 46 percent and Bush 40 percent, while independent candidate Ralph Nader had 7 percent in the Quinnipiac University poll. In May, Kerry was at 46 percent and Bush at 43 percent.

Does anyone know the NJ poll showings for Bush and Gore five months prior to the 2000 election?

This state may be in play for both, though it may lean towards Kerry if he places more time and money in the state. It may, in fact, be more in play than PA.

One downside for Bush, though — this state has severe environmental problems and issues. I say ‘downside’ because if Kerry’s team does its research on Bush’s environmental actions, and ties those actions to his contributors, it would have an effect, IMO.

The tax issue may be a downside for Kerry who has vowed to rescind the tax cut for the top tier. Short Hills and other areas of NO Jersey are home to many of the top tier.

On the other hand, they do not outnumber the middle, poor and blue collar workers of the state. Also, the state is notorious for its high insurance premiums — both health and car. Those voters will be looking for a candidate to address that problem.

I live in NJ. These are the issues:
Terrorism
Car insurance
Hight property taxes
State deficit.

The current democratic govenor is not well thought of. He just raised taxes and increased our deficit.

Also, we’re the home state for many terrorists
We could very well go for Bush.

I live here too, “way out west” in Hunterdon County. I think McGreedy made a foolish move with his latest Tax The Rich plan. I would add Quality of Education to Mojo’s list. But I have no hope for W in NJ. The brainwashed lefty masses supported the illegal Toricelli/Lautenberg election swap, our senators author new gun control bills weekly, the insurance industry has the whole government in its pocket; the list goes on. And don’t forget all the legal government corruption and the Pay To Play, and that our state leaders are doing NOTHING to curb it. They even happily offshore state employees. While I would love to see it, the socialist republic of NJ will go for Kerry by a margin of 4 to 1.

Is it me or does it seem that the more Democratic (as in party) a government is, the more corrupt it is?

W has as much chance of winning NJ as Kerry has of winning Colorado. Ain’t gonna happen.

chris:

You may be right, but you should never say never. Didn’t NJ vote for Reagan twice???

46/40 doesn’t strike me as a “slight lead”. Sounds like someone trying to strike up some drama in his back yard. Call me when it’s 44/43 or something like that…

These polls with Nadir getting >1% aren’t worth much. As a rough cut, give half his vote to Kerry. That gives him a 10% advantage.

Lord Whorfin:
While Reagan did win NJ, he won just about everything that wasn’t nailed down.

New Jersey may not be Massachusetts, but it IS still hopeless.

There have been several polls showing Bush close to Kerry in NJ, and even one that had him winning. I don’t think you can ignore the fact that NJ had a front row seat for the WTC attacks and the collapse of the buildings. My sister, who lives in Plainsboro, voted for Gore in 2000, but she is adamant about supporting Bush this year, and it’s all over the terrorism threat.
