Kerry | Kerry Won't Fight Clinton's Press Appeal

Top Democrats have for months been discussing the wisdom in the timing of the Clinton book release. The Trib is reporting that Kerry is willing to take a few days off if the attemtion on the former president becomes too much.

Yeah, right. This is just making a virtue of necessity.

Clinton’s gonna do what’s best for Bubbah and Kerry sucks as a campaigner so why not lay low and let Billy-boy carry the water for a while?

The question in my mind is this: how much will Clinton’s book selling campaign help Kerry? Will Clinton use his appearances and signings and all that stuff as a platform for extolling the virtues of one John F’ing Kerry or will he hog the limelight and do the typical Clinton “it’s all about me all the time” routine?

Clinton values his supporters. He wants them to buy his book, but more than that his ego needs their love.

Even if he hated Kerry, he would not undercut him and risk alienating his supporters. He may not go as far as Gore, who is like a junkie willing to say anything for the love he felt he never got as VP in the shadow of Clinton.

Kerry will welcome any kind words from Clinton, and more importantly unkind words about GW.

So, when people kept saying that Kerry’s ratings go up when he says nothing, I sort of discounted them… but then, it does seem like Kerry is taking every opportunity to “take time off” from his campaign. Maybe those people are on to something, and Kerry’s figured it out, too. Or maybe Kerry’s just plain lazy.

Given the choice:

You can lay low, conserve your smaller campaign chest, and watch GW’s approval numbers fall steadily due to the quagmire that is war,

or

You can send big coin on ads and try to outshout Reagan’s funeral.

Which would you do?
