Kerry | Kerry Reneges on Promise to Make All Military Records Public

The Boston Globe reports this morning that Kerry has backed off his pledge release all of his military records:

Kerry, in an interview Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” was asked whether he would follow President Bush’s example and release all of his military records. “I have,” Kerry said. “I’ve shown them — they’re available for you to come and look at.” He added that “people can come and see them at headquarters.”

But when a reporter showed up yesterday morning to review the documents, the campaign staff declined, saying all requests must go through the press spokesman, Michael Meehan. Late yesterday, Meehan said the only records available would be those already released to this newspaper.

“He is releasing all military records he has released to The Boston Globe,” Meehan said in a telephone interview. In a follow-up e-mail, Meehan said it was those particular records to which Kerry was referring on “Meet the Press.”

Kerry has not released the formal evaluations from superior officers, although his campaign has given a letter from a commanding officer that recommended him for service aboard Navy patrol boats and also reports for the Silver and Bronze stars that laud Kerry’s actions in combat. By comparison, retired Army General Wesley K. Clark released hundreds of pages of his records during the Democratic primary campaign, including all evaluations of him by his superiors.

What is Kerry hiding? I suspect it has to do with the “3 and out” rule he manipulated?

From Yahoo News on a different subject: Bob Kerrey’s and Richrd Ben-Veneiste’s grandstanding are NOT PLAYING WELL with America.

Commission members also face criticism for their frequent appearances on TV and in newspaper columns.

Juliette Kayyem, a Harvard Kennedy School of Government professor who served on a congressional terrorism panel to investigate the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Africa, questioned why 9/11 panel members have granted so many interviews.

“They’ve become too public,” she said. “It tempts commissioners into making assessments and conclusions prematurely.”

Sun - “Oh, of course, I’ve released everything.”
Mon - “Oh, I menat that I’ve released everything that I’ve released.”

Kind of brings the meaning of “is” into question, doesn’t it.

So much for the “proud war hero”.

For a decorated combat veteran, Kerry sure is a defensive, whining pussy!

Posted by: TL at April 20, 2004 10:22 AM

LMAO! Man, that Kerry is such an idiot. Now everyone KNOWS he covering up his fake purple hearts.
Kerry lies about everything. Including his so called Christianity. Last year, he was an agnostic. Flip flop, flip flop, flip flop, is the sound he makes when he walks and talks.
Just wait till he gets nailed on cheating on his taxes, and dear sweet Mrs. Kerry gets nailed for donating way too money to his campaign.

Posted by: Al-Lat at April 20, 2004 11:12 AM

And compare this to Bush who released all his military records each time he ran for office. And each time the pile was bigger then the last. At least Kerry f—king served, compared to AWOL boy.

Oh and lets not talk about flip flops- nothing compares to President AWOL’s flip flops-
Lets recall some recent ones:
Rice wont testify. Now she will.
Aug. 6 PDB wont be released. Then it was.
Opposed 9/11 commision. Then he didnt.
Opposed homeland defense department…for most of a year after 9/11. Then he didnt.

But of course the Right can talk about Kerry’s flip flops becouse they write fiction- Theyve got a great imagination.

Posted by: typhonus at April 20, 2004 11:33 AM

Well Typhonus, let’s take a look at this shall we?

Rice won’t testify then she will: Net result, intense media build up for her testimony. What does Condi do? Whack the grandstander right upside the head.

The PDB won’t be released, then it will: Net result, intense media build up to the leak/release. What does the PDB say? Exaclty what Dr Rice told the commission it said. Dan rather et al are still trying to get the egg off of they faces!!

Opposed the 9/11 commission then he didn’t: Looking at the counter productive media circus it’s become, the opposition (Which I honestly don’t recall) was right on target. Now that it’s a reality, he’s playing those people like a violin.

Opposed Homeland Defense department then he didn’t. What he opposed was the formation of the department. Excluding union coverage was the right thing to do!!

Soooooo, now what.

well, well… Gomer Pyle wont release his records….Surprise, Suprise, Suprise..

Posted by: hound at April 20, 2004 12:38 PM

typhonus, when are leftists going to stop trying to play poker with GWB? you guys have been suckered by a master? you’ve all have been played and screwed, and you all keep coming back for more. and GWB’s the dummy? every last one of those things you mentioned, he’s come out smelling like a rose. remember the back to congress for a resolution boondoggle and how he played that into the election? get up from the table and leave the poker game to the big boys.

Hey Typhoid,

Bush has released everything regarding his Guard service, including his dental records. Senator Windsock hasn’t released much of anything, and yet is campaigning on his service record.

Every time something happens that doesn’t fit the Bush-hating worldview of you and your liberal friends, you simply move the goal posts and bitch about something else.

Face it, you bought a spineless, boring pig-in-a-poke of a candidate and you are going to beat one of the eminently beatable incumbents of all time.

Helen makes a great point — the Bush administration has continually found a way to give the Dems and their friends in the media enough rope to hang themselves again and again. At some point, aren’t you going to wise up and at least wonder why you are wrong so often about so many things? Are you so lathered up in anti-Bush hysteria that introspection is possible on your part?

Posted by: TL at April 20, 2004 01:33 PM

All you guys make very good points against Typhoid’s rants…….just one question-why are the democrats so “dick-less”?

Posted by: Gawdamman at April 20, 2004 02:02 PM

Having a sense of right and wrong, knowing what you want and what you won’t put up with; these are things that the weenie left can’t imagine.

No competition, no striving, just peace out man.

One hopes that they will be so ineffectual that they won’t be able to breed.

Posted by: skip at April 20, 2004 03:00 PM

Senator WindSock… I like that one.

Posted by: Cap'n DOC at April 20, 2004 03:48 PM

I’m just as interested in having Kerry release on his site his post Viet Nam records.

What about him being arrested for protesting? Did’nt they want to know about Bushs’ arrest record?

Posted by: Eugene at April 20, 2004 04:36 PM

If anything, we have learned one thing:
“Never play Texas Hold-em with a Texan”

It sounds like bush has suckered everyone, even myself sometimes, with almost every issue. Not that I hate the man. I like him for his bluntness, his honesty, and his guts.

Brilliant! Even I couldn’t pull this off! Probably cause I don’t play poker all that much.

Posted by: Charles Hammond Jr. at April 20, 2004 07:10 PM

I’m not one to think it’s much of a campaign issue for either candidate but…

Kerry’s campaign has given the AP 13 pages (is that alot or not?) of documentation regarding his miitary service. The Boston Globe had obtained some military records from his campaign last year. Apparently his campaign is reluctant to release his medical records from that era too.

It seems the Bush camp wouldn’t want to make this much of a dick-measuring issue as the legitimacy of Bush’s Texas “Champagne Unit” duty would likely get trounced by anyone who served on the Mekong Delta.

Perhaps Kerry is “suckering” too, hoping the right-wing will rise to the bait—making it a campaign issue (than it deserves), then release the goods.

Has the Bush camp released stuff proving he was present for duty in Alabama? (Not trolling, just want to know.)

ok, ep2k

Posted by: elvispresley2k at April 20, 2004 08:51 PM

EP2K Yes, I believe he has, but I can’t give you a link. VVAJK although IMHO not providing the most honest perspective on Senator Windsock’s alliances, is up-front about Personal verification of his stumblings. If he wants to make an issue of pre, Incountry or post VN experiences he is going to take a bath.

Posted by: Cap'n DOC at April 21, 2004 12:28 PM

And what are Kerry’s so called “war wounds’?

a scratch, a supposed tiny sliver of shrapnel in his arm, treatment: some iodine and a band-aid. No stiches, nothing.
And, he gets a bronz star for pulling a druken boat pal that fell overboard, with his (here’s the drama) his bleeding wounded arm.

And finaly, they pulled some slivers out of his ass! Slivers!! Do you know how you get those? thats from dragging your ass along the boat gunnels!
HAHAHAHA! idodine treatment again, and some band-aids.

F-ing Kerry is a liar and a coward, Oh, and mysteriously, they can’t find the first purple heart story, but we already know that one anyway.

Also, the request forms were all filed by - himself! LMAO! I gues being in command of your own pt boat has it’s privilages, including writing yourself up for medals.
Kerry has these other problems to deal with as well:

  • What sparked his unlikely obsession with becoming the next “JFK.”
    * His sad motivation for going to Vietnam.
    * The truth about his brief stint in the war and his war “hero” status.
    * The war crimes he has publicly admitted – and why these atrocities aren’t derailing his candidacy even though similar charges destroyed the White House ambitions of rival Sen. Bob Kerrey of Nebraska.
    * Why heartbroken families say Kerry betrayed POWs and MIAs.
    * The thing that changed Richard Nixon’s high opinion of Kerry and how he betrayed his fellow anti-war protesters to live the high life.
    * His alliance with Jane Fonda in a radical appeasement group that discussed assassination of U.S. senators and exploited American prisoners.
    * Why Hanoi Jane continues to speak out for him.
*His other strange alliances: with Teresa Heinz, Teddy Kennedy and George Soros.
*Revelations from his private journals and letters.
    * The specifics of his radical record in Congress.
*Why the Massachusetts Democrat voted against the Gulf War after tyrant Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.
*The real reason for his frequent flip-flopping on the issues.
*Which communist enemy of the United States gave him money.
*How he became the king of special interests on Capitol Hill.
    * Why all the foriegn “leaders who publicly back him are terrorists
Oh yes, these issue and many more will all have to be hashed out in the comming months. Democrats will get a taste of their own medicine. They pulled out all the stops on Bush, so what goes around comes around.

fyi…update:
Kerry’s site has posted a bunch of stuff, including comments from superior officers. I’m not sure if this is “the formal evaluations from superior officers” the article at top alludes to.

Some snips:

…Outstanding attributes as a naval officer…has made an exemplary record while serving his country…highly talented, polished and professional naval officer…accomplishments {have been} spectacular…genuinely inspired his division…highly intelligent…one of the brightest, most capable, young officers I have ever had the pleasure of observing….

Sure, those are wonderful elvis, the problem ism none are written on millitary paper, and further, kerry’s office will not allow anything to be copied and verified.
some release that is, A scam. And I’ll point out, that is only ONE, ONE favorable assesment. How about the one from his first commander? how come that isn’t posted? The one that says kerry is a loose cannon, and has to be “straight-jacketed”?

Posted by: Al-Lat at April 21, 2004 05:08 PM

kerry under arrest
Kerry and old and still pal ted

Kerry Anti-war protest director

Youthful kerry and JfK idol on sailboat

Kery and family enjoying hob nobbing with the kennedy’s- he mentors

Kerry selling out Amrica to communists

Plus many more avoilable, plus records of what he has “acheived’ over his “carreer” including Kerry stopped Vietnam Human Rights Act

some of kerry’s real history as a traitor

Sure Elvis, kerry is a “nice guy’ just what the USA needs, a person who will sell out, appease, and thus, destroy America as we know it.

Kerrys second “purple heart”

The Boston Globe - June 6, 2003 — On Feb. 20, 1969, Kerry earned his second Purple Heart after sustaining a slight niche, claimed caused by shrapnel, wound in his left thigh. iodine disinfectant and band-aid applied. According to a previously unreported Navy report on the battle, a two-boat patrol spotted three men on a riverbank who were wearing black pajamas and running and engaged them in a firefight. While not criticizing this engagement, the Navy report did challenge the decision of “unnamed” (Kerry) skippers to fire at other “targets of opportunity” in the area.
“Area seemed extremely prosperous and open to psyops action, minimum number of defensive and no offensive bunkers detected,” the report said. The naval official who wrote the report concluded: “Future missions in this area should be oriented toward psyops rather than destruction.”
The destruction included 40 sampans, 10 hut-style hootches, three bunkers, and 5,000 pounds of rice. The crews from two swift boats had expended more than 14,000 rounds of.50-caliber ammunition. No enemy casualties were reported. [good shooting, wildman kerry. NO enemy fire reported, yet you nicked yourself, and claim a purple heart]

I just read the reports on the the “injuries”
I’m sorry Al-Lat, I didn’t believe what you were writing, I thought you were just speculating.

I can’t believe he got a purple heart for an injury that didn’t even require a stitch!! what sort of madness is that?? Makes the whole purple heart thing seem a little worthless to me. Imagine if you were a soldier who received one for a real injury, then read what Kerry got one for, it would surely take most of the shine of the medal.
