2004 US Presidential Election
March 07, 2004
| The Mighty Midwest
Here’s a pretty decent analysis (written from a California perspective) of where the Electoral College battle lines are being drawn for the November election: Strategists for Bush and Kerry are mapping out an electoral plan for the eight-month presidential campaign that focuses on a handful of Midwestern states — Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin — as well as Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, New Mexico and perhaps West Virginia and Arizona. And, of course, there’s Florida, the most infamous swing state of the last election. Emphasis added. Read the whole thing, as they say. Our 9/11 BY DEBRA BURLINGAME In the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on our country, the families of those who perished on that day became forever linked through our shared anguish and grief. But “the 9/11 families” are not a monolithic group that speaks in one voice, and nothing has made that more clear than the controversy over the Bush campaign ads. It is one thing for individual family members to invoke the memory of all 3,000 victims as they take to the microphone or podium to show respect for our collective loss. It is another for them to attempt to stifle the debate over the future direction of our country by declaring that the images of 9/11 should be off-limits in the presidential race, and to do so under the rubric of “The Families of Sept. 11.” They do not represent me….. Whatever these 9/11 families may think of the president’s foreign policy or the war in Iraq, I ask them to reconsider the language and tone of their statements. We should not tolerate or condone remarks such as those of the 9/11 relative who, so offended by the campaign ads, said that he “would vote for Saddam Hussein before I would vote for Bush.” The insult was picked up and posted on Al-Jazeera’s Web site. In view of the sacrifice our troops have made on our behalf, this insensitivity to them and their families suggests a level of self-indulgence and ingratitude that shocks the conscience……. movon.org is sponsored by tide, which is chaired by none other that John kerry’s suger momma wife. Will john kerry make it to Nov? keep on digging John, the shovel is all yours now…. Posted by: Fat Guy at March 8, 2004 02:53 AM To say that President Bush is using the deaths of so many Americans, purely for policical gain is ludicrest.I just hope its as plain to rest as it is to me that the left is using their normal smear tactics. We still greive for those that were lost that day,and the ones that have been lost tring to stop the ones that would do it again if only they had the chance. Posted by: Rob..NC at March 8, 2004 03:47 AM But you must admit, the Democrats have taken the higher road by using only the deaths of US soldiers (hey, they may despise ‘em, but they sure as heck support ‘em!) to make hay, and criticizing anyone mentioning 9/11. Hold it, that didn’t come out right. The Democrats have gone to great lengths to extend their sympathies to those Iraqis who would have died this year at the whim of Saddam. Nope. How about The Democrats have shown admirable restraint in not pointing out how they handled the ‘93 attack on the WTC. That doesn’t help, either. How DOES one stick up for the Democrats? Posted by: jason3 at March 8, 2004 11:17 AM Sorry jason3, It cannot be done. Posted by: leaddog2 at March 8, 2004 11:22 AM jason3 said, “That doesn’t help, either. The present administration and the CIA was actually behind the 9/11 attack. 3. It’s all about the ooooiiiiiiillllllll. 4. Hey, I’m a Vietnam War hero that was injured so badly, they had to put a bandaid over the scratch. 5. The present administration needs to be investigated…..I don’t know what for….oh yeah, cause it’s all been lies, for the oil, by a guy that didn’t spend 3 months skiing up and down a river in Vietnam. 6. If you are in the corner and can’t answer a question because even you know it will make you look like a fool, respond with an accusation. Ask them, “Well, what about the secret files that the CIA has that prove you are a child molester.” 7. NEVER FORGET, you have the full power of the liberal media on your side…….no matter what ! Posted by: Jeff B at March 8, 2004 08:37 PM Jeff, I like your humor. So true. Posted by: leaddog2 at March 8, 2004 09:31 PM He had time to water ski too? Or, he really didn’t do anything except smoke alot of pot, goof around, and tell huge lies! Posted by: Fat Guy at March 9, 2004 02:53 AM I live over in the UK, and frankly I was pretty shocked at the unedifying row boiling over about the ads that Bush was running. They seemed perfectly tasteful to me, and - lets face it - Bush does deserve some credit for doing a good job after 9/11. Does anyone imagine that plastic-boy Gore would have achieved the same results Bush did? It looks like a nasty case of sour grapes to me. Bush was in the right place at the right time, and did a pretty good job getting the country back on its feet. So give him some credit! I for one was shocked at what happened, and I fervently believe in the operations being carried out in Iraq at the moment. A democrat would still be farting around in the UN - thank God for Blair and Bush. What worries me is that American liberals (and liberals in my country) really do have such low self-esteem that they want the terrorists to like them at any price, even if it means selling out their own country. Please, please guys - don’t vote for Kerry. The rest of the world won’t forgive you … Posted by: Daniel Polwarth at March 9, 2004 12:53 PM More wisdom from foreign lands! Posted by: leaddog2 at March 10, 2004 09:51 AM Ya know. I’m no Bush fan. War on Drugs. Christian Ayatollahs etc. But I’ll be damned if some murdering bastard who has no remorse for his part in the Cambodian killing fields, the Vietnamese boat people, and the communist reeducation camps is going to get my vote. In 1972 I thought Kerry made sense. By 1977 it was easy to see that he supported a pack of likes. I am sorry, sorry, sorry that I was so easily dupped. Kerry ain’t sorry for shit. Damn him to hell.
