Bush | Show Me the Money

Thanks to some data from CNN, I have updated my warchest chart.

As a group, the Democrats continue to raise more money than the Republicans. This slight edge has grown by a full percentage point since I last reviewed the situation in November. Yet, as a wise man once said, a house divided against itself will not stand.

One of the advantages of incumbency is that their party’s money is usually not spent in a primary fight. President Bush has $104 million dollars on hand in his warchest. Senator Kerry has $2 million. Even if the Democrats continue to raise $1.19 for every $1.00 the Republicans raise, and it all goes to Kerry, the Democrats would have to raise $537 million dollars (compared to the Republicans raising $452 million) to pull even. Unless George Soros or Teresa Heinz decide to commit a major portion of their wealth, it is not going to happen.

Question: If this is correct, why is it we always hear from the media how much President Bush has raised, but we never hear a report on how much the Democrats have raised?

Oh, it is certainly correct. If anything, I slightly understate the case. I don’t count every Democrat who ran (e.g., Graham). Click on my November link for a reference to yet another source.

You raise a very good question. The media would have to answer it. I don’t know if it due to media bias or due to lazy/ignorant reporters. However, since even liberal CNN had a story about it, I suspect many political reporters know this. Since the overwhelming majority of mainstream journalists vote Democrat, they simply do not want to call much attention to this.

“Peaceful Tomorrows” is being portrayed as an independent group of relatives of victims of the 911 attacks. They are getting a lot of press claiming to be outraged over the new Bush ads.

Call me insensitive if you like, but I wonder if this outrage could possibly be a tad overblown, and more likely attributable to the millions and millions of dollars this group has received from endowments chaired by Teresa Heinz, wife of Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry.

The money that flows into The Tides also flows out. They have given grants totaling $489,000 to the Iraq Peace Fund, who used that money to fund the anti-war marches and media costs of 27 groups, including MoveOn.org, whose purpose is to defeat George W. Bush.

Other Tides Center projects include The Youth Gender Project, which seeks to “empower and support transgender, gender-variant, intersexed and gender-questioning youth and young adults.”

They also shoveled $200,000 towards The Ruckus Society - founded in 1995 to train activists in violent protest against biotechnology, globalization and the World Bank. It incited property destruction in the Seattle riots of 1999 and Washington, D.C., the following year.

Now, if you really want to get mad, you should also know that $8,000,000 in taxpayer money flowed into the Tides Center in the form of federal grants made by eight different agencies between 1997 and 2001.

Yea, NEED all that money to pay them burglers at
the Dem HQ and the wiretappers at the UN so they
can find out what the Competition is doing. No
Bid contracts bring Money in so that will help
defray the costs BUT all the money paid to get
that coalition on our side has to cost something
but then Potsdorf and Belize don’t ask for much.
