The answer is no to what question?

From what I’ve read about the interview, he never said no when asked if he was having an affair.

Posted by: CERDIP at February 13, 2004 10:46 AM

He better be innocent or he just ruined his career.

Posted by: mark buehner at February 13, 2004 10:53 AM

the same way rush limbaugh ruined his?

Posted by: x at February 13, 2004 11:04 AM

I didn’t realize limbaugh was a politician running for president.

Posted by: CERDIP at February 13, 2004 11:17 AM

He may have ruined his career as a Republican if suspected of guilt; otherwise this shouldn’t be a problem.

1) No one died, he and his wife have an understanding, the girl was an adult, a private matter, this is accepted behavior among the sophisticates of France, or…
2) nothing happened, harmless flirting (and he was flattered), or…
3) contrived right-wing lies, baseless election year drivel, and/or…
4) please, you’re distracting him from his tireless efforts on behalf of the American people.

Bush’ proposed immigration plan- THAT is the scandal today.

Posted by: mandroid at February 13, 2004 11:24 AM

this is accepted behavior among the sophisticates of France,
and
nothing happened,

we have always known doing nothing in france is accepted behavior.

and remember, cannabilism is accepted behavior in some parts of the south pacific and polygamy accepted behavior in some parts of utah and cooking meth in some parts of la and …

i guess i wouldn’t use the france defense if i were kerry.

Its got nothing to do with the affair. A presidential candidate in the middle of the race cant come out and tell a bold faced lie on national media to cover up a scandel. He’d be ruined. Whereas, if it was true and he admitted it it would be a minor embarrassement. Its always the coverup that gets you.

Posted by: mark buehner at February 13, 2004 11:46 AM

However once your elected then its a no brainer: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman”……

No bill just a blowjob.

Mark Would that be the sheets or the blanket? Pillow? I think his Compass has been broken for about 30+ years.

Posted by: Cap'n DOC at February 13, 2004 12:26 PM

At the centre of the allegations is Alex Polier, 24, who had worked as a New York-based reporter for Associated Press. She now is now in Kenya.

Her parents, Donna and Terry, speaking from Malvern, Pennsylvania yesterday, said there was no evidence of an affair, only that Senator Kerry may have been attracted to their daughter.

Mr Polier said Senator Kerry had called his daughter “two or three years ago” to ask her to work on his re-election team. She declined.

“I think he’s a sleaze-ball,” Mr Polier told London’s Sun newspaper.

Mrs Polier claimed Senator Kerry was “after” her daughter.

This is an interesting issue, but not for the reasons so loudly cried out in the media:

Republicans, let’s be sure, were never going to vote for Kerry, infedility or not;

Democrats have already shown that marital infidelity is not an issue for them;

And those “swing” voters, especially in the “battleground” states, are not likely to have their November vote influenced by a February scandal about personal issues.

So, what IS this about?

In a word: IMAGE.

Kerry was riding around 7% support in the polls before he won Iowa. Ever since, he has LOOKED like a winner, and as a result has enjoyed broad support and momentum.

But that same appearance can be shattered if Kerry starts to look weak, and there are certain things he simply cannot have happen, no matter what. And top of the list would be a public split with his wife in front of all those cameras.

  • If Mrs. “Heinz Heiress” Kerry gets angry at John, the spat will be instant headline stuff. Loud and angry always gets press, and everything Kerry wants to say will be ignored.
  • If “the Heiress” is so inclined, she can turn off the money to the Kerry campaign. For all the talk about his “independent” campaign, if she says no money, kiss goodbye to ALL Kerry campaign ads and trips: Kerry would have to run his campaign in an online chat room.
  • Dean has considered Kerry not merely an opponent but an enemy, ever since NH. With his money running short and his window of opportunity only open a tiny bit, count on Dean to throw everything he’s got left into hurting Kerry here. Don’t forget how Dean managed internet rallies and flash mobs; he knows how to make an event happen. Come to that, interesting how the first play and push came through blogs and internet sites, isn’t it?
  • Edwards is a trial lawyer, and the most likely candidate to gain from a Kerry fall. And like Dean, Edwards is tight on money and time; he needs something to hurt Kerry before Super Tuesday. Edwards is more likely to use TV and newspapers, but you can count on his machine working this story for maximum effect.
  • Finally, the confidence of the undecided voter is a fickle thing. There is no doubt that Gary Hart could have been a formidable nominee, but his image was destroyed by the scandal. Not the affair itself, mind you, but by how it was spun and the comments made by Democrat leadership. Kerry needs to watch carefull how the DLC handles this, and he’d better hope it’s something stronger than silence.

The worst thing for Democrats in this scandal is, this one is all their own. Bush did nothing to bring it up or give it legs, but for as long as it gets attention, Bush will benefit from the resulting damage done to Kerry.

Gdubs, dead on.

Posted by: mark buehner at February 13, 2004 02:24 PM

i don’t know what’s funnier… gdubya’s comment, or the fact that gdubya spent the better part of half an hour typing out such a string of nonsense!

Posted by: x at February 13, 2004 02:35 PM

X,

Sorry but some of us agree with him.
Besides, it appears he types fast (and
better than I do). Ha!

Posted by: leaddog2 at February 13, 2004 02:42 PM

x Yawn (rolling eyes).

Posted by: Cap'n DOC at February 13, 2004 02:45 PM

For my next trick, I’ll try to spell “infidelity” correctly!

What’s wrong, X?

You’re not afraid to throw mud from Left at Right, but Left at Left scares you?

LOL!

This story is nothing but slime spewed out of one of Rove’s rightwingideologue propaganda and disinformation covens.

The hypocrisy of suggesting unproven, partisan, scurrilous, and unsubstantiated slime ALLEDGING infidelity is somehow a serious matter, - and that a President deceptively hurling America to a bloody costly war and woefully misguided and radically miscalculated occupation and nationbuilding enterprize against the wrong Muslims is somehow decisive leadership and a bold vision - is absolutely absurd, laughable, ridiculous and just plain silly.

Let’s get to the bottom of the Kerry issue - and no doubt Rove will dispatch legions of hobgobblins with pockets full of poesy and suitcases full of money drudging the swamps for slime to smear on Kerry.

Imagining any serious discussion of civility or dirty politics with anyone on theright is an extreme hypocrisy and utterly absurd in the light of the salacious and pornographic savaging and sliming of “Clintoon”, “Hitlary”, and Chelsea for heavenssake. Are you kidding? Theright questioning civility and dirty politics is hypocrisy mutated into delusion.

Ann Coulters slander of Clelend is reprehensible. She must be publically rebuked, denounced, and exposed as a partisan hitwoman, and inquisitor with no credibility, no legitimacy, and no human decency.

Ann Coulter is a partisan hack. Maranatha. That punk Gilespie is worried about democratic dirty politics? Hilarious hypocrisy, and cutting irony, the hieght of satire. We are the Mickey Mouse Club, - theright is the SS.

The divides are poignant and clearly marked. Defending the Bush government will be hard and energetic work, as all the airy masks and husks are finally peeling and the actual kernal is revealed. Bush has much to be accountable for, a huge and festering credibility gap, and lots of badnews. The Bush government has turned 9/11 into a neverending nighmare. The shameful fact that so many deceptions, abuses, and failures have never before been questioned, makes the present scrutiny all the more shocking and awesome. It’s not pretty. I pity truebelievers who must sell their soul to defend the Bush government.

Innuendo and partisan opinion carries no weight or provides any subtance or legitmacy in a court of law, - but in the court of the media - there are no such standards or critical analysis or fact checking, and slime and false aspersion is tolerated and percieved FALSELY as fact - never mind the silent redactions two week later, - the most entertaining media wins. It need not be, and certainly IS NOT under the Bush administration - true.

The hysterical witchunt and lynching of Kerry before any real “story” emerged speaks loudly to the logic and reason of theright.

Shame.

Here are the problems with your post, Tony:

1. CLARK and DEAN pushed this story out. Are you gonna say now that these guys were following Rove’s orders? If you think so, then I have lovely line of tin foil hats I can sell you, to protect you from the radio waves of all those black helicopters;

2. Democrats think nothing about demanding Bush defend himself, then trashing him anyway after he provides evidence AND witnesses for his Guard service. For some reason, they don’t expect Kerry to even ANSWER the question about the claims against him. If making up stories against Bush is kosher, then asking about Kerry’s affairs is in-bounds;

3. If Kerry had an affair and admits it, he can put this behind him early. If he didn’t have an affair, he can make his position strong by being open about what happened. If he did have an affair but tries to cover it up, WELL, more than a few guys have learned the hard way how bad an idea that is…

4. As for “witchhunt” and “lynching”, only an absolute hypocrite could pretend Kerry’s mess is anything but Democrat vs. Democrat, and only the greatest of liars could pretend Kerry has been “lynched” by a few inconvenient questions. News Flash, Tony: If Kerry ends up President, he had better be ready for inconvenient questions on a regular basis: Every President has had to have this skill, so it’s actually quite relevant to see now what Kerry is made of when the heat is on.
