2004 US Presidential Election

| Today: Maine

It’s caucus day in Maine.

A turnout of about 15,000 is expected (there are 298,000 registered Democrats in Maine). 404 caucuses are planned. [List of locations]

24 of the state’s 35 delegates are up for grabs.

Unlike yesterday’s caucuses in Michigan and Washington - where Kerry won expectedly, there is no clear frontrunner in Maine. There have been no polls for this state, but pundits are expecting it will be a nail-biter. Dean considers Maine a must-win state.

Most of the polling places open at 1:00[EST]. The first results are expected around 3:00, with final results sometime around 9:00 p.m.
