Kerry | How Kerry turned the corner

Interesting analysis piece here at CSM about the Kerry comeback. Link via ED.

Kerry took out a $6.4 million mortgage on ‘his’ home to fund the campaign!! Why are our estimable journalists not delving into that? Who is the lender? What’s the loan to value? His house is worth how many MILLIONS? How does a career politician afford such a house? We know where trial attorney John Edwards’ money came from—contingency fees—but Kerry? How much are his loving and his presidential ambition worth to Teresa Heinz the ketchup queen?

So what. Aren’t the Bush’s millionaires also? The Clinton’s? Kennedy’s? and every other president and politician. If they didn’t have money, then they wouldn’t even be running, since they would not be able to afford to. I’m not paying for these yahoos to run, so they better come in with cash of their own.

Rocko, We know where and how the Bush and Kennedy families made their money, and we know about the Clintons too. Clintons aside, the others did not get wealthy on their salaries as elected officials, and the Clintons are fat because of bestselling books and speaking fees. Bill gets about $200,000 per speech hour plus expenses. The possibility of corruption aside, major officeholders get big bucks only after leaving office, not while they hold offices.
It is only the rare neophyte to elected major campaigning that funds their own campaign, like Michael Huffington.
And you are wrong: You are indeed paying for yahoos to run, with matching campaign funds, aka taxes.
So my question remains valid, thank you.
