2004 US Presidential Election

I run a Google search tonight, and what do I see: a popup funded by the Grand Old Party. Here’s the proof; click to see life-sized. The World Wide Web: Last frontier for political advertising. Posted by Alan at January 28, 2004 09:43 PM | TrackBack Comments
Leave it to the Republicans to use POPUPS, arguably the worst possible advertising on the Internet. Posted by: x at January 28, 2004 11:13 PM I’m crying bullshit on this. Google doesn’t use Popups: (from the FAQ on Premium Ads) Does Google accept rich media or pop-up ads? No, Google ads are all text only and appear on the same page as our search results. We have found this approach provides users with the most relevant ads in a format that generates the highest clickthrough rates. (see: http://www.google.com/ads/faq.html ) Side Note: when testing this, I saw that Edwards doesn’t even have the top slot in Google for his own name (Peoplesoft does, for some reason). Posted by: Intrope at January 29, 2004 08:45 AM Just to clarify: I’m not claiming Alan didn’t get this popup on his ‘puter, just that Google didn’t serve it up. Posted by: Intrope at January 29, 2004 08:49 AM Agreed. Google doesn’t do intrusive or even high-bandwidth advertising. Period. I’m thinking that Alan has some Spyware installed on his PC. Anyone have any advice on how he can get rid of it? Posted by: AndyP at January 29, 2004 11:48 AM x, actually popups are my favorite. When I use Safari on my Mac at work, it automatically blocks them all. When I use IE at home on my Windows machine, I use Google Toolbar to block them all. Advertising I never see doesn’t bother me. Popups are laughingly easy to ignore. If Democrats had used popups, you could have defended them as being affordable and accessible to political groups without a lot of money or connections, claiming that the big-spending Republicans normally have the advantage in the media. Posted by: Alex Dale at January 29, 2004 02:33 PM congratulations, you’re a techno-elitist. does that make you feel good when you go to bed every day? the fact remains that 99% of the real world still gets popups. and “If Democrats had used popups” would still have raised my ire. The fact of the matter remains though, it’s the Grand Ol Pothole that is doing it. Posted by: x at January 29, 2004 02:48 PM X, As one neo-Luddite to another, get your ass to google, install google toolbar and it will kill popups. Or would you rather have something to cry about? Posted by: jones at January 29, 2004 06:56 PM jones, you know the answer to that question… which is why people like x never shut up. They aren’t actually looking for answers, no matter what they say… For the love of whatever god you worship, take a little initiative in your life for once. In the time it took for you to complain about pop-ups you could have initiated an action that would have eliminated them from your computer forever. I know it’s easier to whine, but try to have a little self-respect! I sincerely hope you are more capable than you make yourself out to be. Posted by: Alex Dale at January 29, 2004 07:38 PM Pretty funny- will that be improving the economy by Posted by: AnyoneButBush2004 at January 30, 2004 12:31 AM Since you can’t afford yours, AnybodybutRice2012, I’ll just take it.
